97 PRELUDE - Fans kicking in late?
So like title says I have a 97 prelude base. The temp gauge needle goes to about 3/4 and then the fans kick on. I thought this was odd so I hooked up a scanner and it shows the fans kicking on at ~214 degrees F. All the research I have done says that they are supposed to turn on at 199 degrees. Any ideas? Only CEL is an EGR code for insufficient flow, and I don't think that its related just thought I'd mention it.
EDIT: And I forgot to say that I already replaced the radiator fan switch (on t-stat housing) and no change.

Fan switch would've been my first guess; the other thing would be the temp sensor itself could be bad, and is showing the temperature hotter than it actually is. I guess I would try replacing that next.

thats is exactly what i was thinking. or get a infrared temp gun and hit your upper hose with it once it is up to tempertaure (not the most accurate way but i would think it would work).

well the scanner and the cluster temp gauge were about the same, and theres two different senders for the pcm and the gauge, so I don't think thats the problem. Now I am starting to think that if the t-stat is the wrong temp rating, or just going bad, then since the rad fan temp sender is on the hose side of the t-stat, if the t-stat is opening late (at about 214 instead of 199) then that could be the problem. Did that make sense?

When i had my h22a in my ek the fan stopped working and i over heated like a son of a bitch. I found a wire that had 12v when the car was running, and non when the car was off, and just spliced into that. Result was the fan was always on when the car was running, but problem solved

Wiring your fan to be on constantly is not a great idea.. There are two fan switches one is on the thermostat housing and the other is on the radiator hose inlet.
Switch A (thermo housing) is supposed to actuate the fan at 198-208 degrees and switch B on the hose inlet is 217-228 degrees.
Pull the fan switch A and put it in a 200 degree bowl of hot water and check for continuity between the terminals.
If there is none replace the switch.
