89 Prelude SI Oil Pressure Problems
Havent been here for a while, but i now need your help, The 89 Prelude i use for my daily driver has been giving me issues with a flickering/flashing oil pressure warning light. The motor that is in the car only has about 30k on it, and the Oil is full, and recently changed. When driving the light stays off just like it should, but if you slow down and stop, or take a corner too fast the light will flicker and then start flashing. It never did this before and i dont wanna burn up the motor so i need to find out if its an electrical problem or if my oil pressure is actually low. At idle the light stays OFF. Where is the sending unit and what should i do to check to see what the real problem is.
Thanks.

If your light is off at idle you might be ok. That is the time you should see the lowest oil pressure. Sounds like you might be starving the engine of oil though if it only comes on when you corner. I would check to make sure your oil pan isn't dented. I would think if the oil pump was going or your engine was worn out (worn bearings, etc...) you would see the light at idle. Maybe your pump is starting to fail at higher speeds?
I suppose it is also possible that it is electrical.
Not sure where you oil sensor is. It is right underneath the oil filter on the H22/23's.

Re: 89 Prelude SI Oil Pressure Problems (eMpAtHy)
I guess what i need to do is hook up a Mech gauge and see what kind of pressure the motor actually has, can anyone confirm the location of the sender? Or some other place i can tap into to get an Oil pressure reading? Also what is the normal pressure for this motor? I really hope it isnt the oil pump, im driving this car cause the turbo is off the mustang getting upgraded and i need this car to drive.. Can the pump be changed with the Motor in the car?
