89 Honda Prelude No Speedometer
Okay, So a couple years back I bought an 89 Honda Prelude SI 2.0L Fuel Injected 5 speed.
I got a great deal on it and wanted to fix it up.
Now that I'm done with college, I have more time to fix it.
The first issue to tackle was the Speedometer not working.
Speedometer cable was my first thought. I pulled the cable from the Transmission and it seems to be okay. I swapped the instrument cluster, still having the same problem.
I am throwing a CEL, (6, Coolant Temp. Sensor) but not 17 for a VSS. Anyhow, I looked at the VSS(I think it's a VSS? It's the device the speedometer cable plugs into). I looked into the VSS, and I don't see anything in the shaft that would actually DRIVE the speedometer cable to turn.
I decided, it might be a good idea to take the VSS off, to inspect it closer and determine if I need to repair/replace it.
Now my problem....
How the hell do I get this thing out?
I removed pretty much all of the air box to get at it, but I can't see whats holding it in. All the manuals I have looked at indicate a screw is holding it in, but I have no idea.
Please keep in mind that this is a 1989 Honda Prelude, the speedometer cable is mechanical, not electric.
If you guys could give me an idea of how to take it off and inspect it.

There's ether one or two 10mm bolts holding it in. You may need to remove coolant
hoses to get to them. Just feel around it or look. If the vss is bad. I believe the odometer
and speedo would both not work. If its just the speedometer the its probably the cluster.
Check it out and get at me.

So you started a thread here too eh???
As stated over at pp.com you just need to remove the 10mm bolt that holds down the VSS and then wiggle it out.

Of course it is. I wrote a well written post, and posted it in all 3 forums. The fisherman who casts the most lines catches the most fish. A lot of people are in multiple forums, however some only look at one forum. Can you fault me there?
I finally found the bolt, however I can't get that sucker out. I can't even see it. I can feel it. I know its there, but I'm still trying to figure out how to get a socket on it. I've got the air intake all the way out of the way, but there are still several coolant lines running in the way.
BYKfixer, are you in Richmond?

A little south of richmond.
Near petersburg. I could see southpark mall from my house if not for the trees if you know where that is.
You're like FVA? Fredricksburg area?.

I seriously hate posting on forums.... Everytime I do, it tells me I've been logged out and I lose my whole response.
so let me try this again.
Pickapart.com Wheeler location.
They have a Red 3rd gen Prelude in case you ever need parts. It's pretty complete.
