5th gen overheating damage? (searched)
i just had my timing belt and water pump changed... and supposedly the guy who did it didn't refil the radiator and the car over heated... i was wondering what is the extent of the damage of the h22 being over heateD? after all this, i was thikning a new radiator/fans/themostat... the main question is, is there antying DAMAGED after the engine is over heated and should it be changed to either after market or oem spec? thanks in advance.

in reality it just depends on how hot it got and how long it was that hot, it could have warped the head or other numerous things, it way not have hurt anything at all, put sum coolant in it and see how it runs and how hot it gets.....

Re: 5th gen overheating damage? (l2yanE)
update.
the car over heated 3 times in 3 days. i refilled the radiator with water first, but after about 12 mile drive at 70mph, the car overheated, refilled water (only thing i had), then i drove another 10 miles, and it didn't overheat, but when i checked to see the level of fluid, i had to refill it with antifreeze and water again... almost half. then i drove about 30 miles home and it overheated at stop lights.
should i just not even bother with trying to DIY? and take it to honda to fix it? anyone ever take the prelude to honda dealer for overheating problems, and know how much it'll run?

Let's just hope it's your headgasket and not your head. I warped mine on a toyota and now I burn antifreeze and have to fill it up all the time.
Well....I did have to do this before I blew it up.

from ur statement, i guess its a warped head?? cause i drive x miles and then park it, gotta refill it. ;( then drive again, and fill it. its pretty funny carrying bottles of water and coolant in your car. 5 gallons of water, 1 gallon of coolant.
any other suggestions?? is this gonna be a money pit? cause i've put about 1-2k of maintenance alone in the last year alone and the car was totalled not too long ago and i got it fixed. the car is prolly worth 4-5k.

It will be a money pit if your head is warped or cracked. I would take it to a mechanic and get it tested. Just tell him that you are burning antifreeze and you want to know if your headgasket is okay.

Sounds like you've at the minimum roached the gasket, and probably warped the head.
You should do it yourself. a mechanic will rape you for that and it's not that tough a job. Pull the head, take it to a machine shop and tell them to check it out. If it's not warped, fine, grab a new gasket, have them freshen the surface of the head while it's off, and throw it back on. If it's warped, see what your options are and go from there. I've seen H22 complete heads for ~400-500 ready to slap on.
Are you getting any smoke or condensation out of the tail pipe?
