Default 4thgen prelude retrofit.... 56K OH CHIT!!

Still in the works ... but here's what I got so far... pulled it from a post I did on another forum.

Well I'm getting closer to starting/finishing my prelude retrofit. I've got everything I need and I'm currently taking measurements of everything. Instead of drilling holes into the low beam reflector ... I'm going to mount the projector on a plate but will still be using the OEM brackets & mounting points. So if I ever need to go back to JDM stock.. I can. Here are some pics that I've taken. I bought an extra JDM headligth so I can make all my templates.. then convert everything into the actual headlights I'll be using... this will minimize down time of my daily driven car.

Space really isn't an issue when it comes to the back side of the headlight housing... when when I put the cover on, is when I start getting worried. As of now... I know I probably WILL have to trim the bezels down from the top and the bottom cuz it will not clear the rear part of the headlight bezel as shown in pic 28 (above). The front part of the bezel is wider than the rear end... as seen in the pic below.

30

I estimate the projector bezel to land towards the rear or the middle of the headlight bezel once they are installed. I removed all of the epoxy from the headlight trim in order the sit the headlight cover completely fulsh so I get proper measurements.

Angle and Tilt can be adjusted using these three screws.

31

Another issue I might have is the projector being limited as to how foward it can go... considering that the outer walls of the projector hit the inner walls of the rear part of the headlight bezel as shown on pics 25, 26, 27.

Both the bezels were scratch when I received them... so I'm considering gettin them replated, leaving them alone.. or just replaint some silver color.

Default 56K OH CHIT!! (JDMugenBB1)

CUTOFF PICS

For the plate... just ganna use some sheet metal... I bought some about 2 weeks ago.. but I think it might be alil to flimzy.. so ganna take it back and get something alil thicker. Also bought some 1x1/8" thick aluminun flat bar just to give it some reinforcement... not sure if I'll even need it.. but just in case. Ganna spend some more time on it this weekend.. hopefully. I still need to finalize the cut off line tho. Got different things going on with both projectors that I need to address.

Projector 1 (P1) has spiky hair, has a wide color spread compaired to projector 2 (P2) and also has a more clear step.

P2 has a double step but the color spread isn't as wide as P1, also isn't as clear as P1.

Here are the pics, distant shots were taken at about 22 ft.

P1

P2

(inside double step)

(changed the settings on the camera to pick up the purple)

Random shots

I think the prob I'm having is that when I bought the projectos ... the sheild was bent cuz they tried bring out more color or sharper cut off.... when really all they had to do was clean the lens, get nice bulbs, & clean the bowl.... which I've done.... But I also tried to straighten out the sheild .... I have it as straight as 'I' can get it.... but I seriously think they are off a tad... which with these.. means a world ofa difference. so I think I need to get a hold of some that have not been tampered with.

I really wanna make sure that I have once I have these installed... that I can drive down the road and the color projected will be the same for both. If I leave them they way they are now... I know I will show different colors when I go over bumps and stuff... which might look cheap or cheesy (i.e. one blue while the other is purple).

Nice job but I don't know why people insist on retrofitting the whole thing headlight. My friend has his headlight stock with a HID bulb and it looks freaking sick.

really thorough job, looks like this mechanical dissection class i'm taking will have its uses. :-)

keep us updated and keep up the good work. you could make yourself a shiny dime if you template everything you're doing and offer services to some H-T members. (ahem..)

hahah you're not hijacking... to adjust your light output.... there are some screws in the back of the housing that adjust the tilt (up/down) and direction (left/right) of the light (as shown in pic 31). The bottom right one in the pic would be the one to adjust the raise your light output. The way you adjust it, is by inserting a philips screwdriver into the top hole so the grooves of the screwdriver line up with the teeth of the bottle cap.... when you twist the screwdriver, it will twist the bottle caps as if two gears are working together, thus adjusting that screw... understand what I'm saying?? Adjusting the other screws might help to get a better aim. The low beam side has 3 screws you can adjust (shown in pics 4-8). Hope this helps!

Well for one thing ... retrofitting, when done right, looks way better than just a crappy plug-n-play. Second, 9 times out of 10... dumb dumbs like your friend are the ones that blind the hell out of everyone going in his opposite direction (very annoying). The blinding is caused by glare that is put out by the brighter HID bulbs. Some ppl don't even use the plug-n-play ... they just simply stick a ballast in their car along with an HID capsule (which is way longer than most stock bulbs) and waaalllaaa!! Hardcore Ppl Blinding Bastard! hehe. The reflector of a stock headlight is designed to project light forward with the use of a proper sized bulb, which is why you see all those lines and cuts inside of the reflector (pic below). A longer bulb would change the angle in which the light hits this cuts ... making the projected light reflect in directions that are not DOT approved causing you to get tickets. I've even seen ppl remove the center reflector (also show in pic below) off the low beam headlight just to make the long HID capsule fit.... BBooo even more blinding. So... save yourself the trouble of getting tickets and blinding ppl... send that money to do a retrofit.... and get some pats on the back while doing it and once it's done.

Yea they are the D1S Valeo with ECE lens, DOT shield & phillips D2S bulbs (85122 I think)... running off a Denso/Koito slim ballast found some Lexus's. Also using the rare Z8 bezels... not that it affects light output... but might as well mention before some one asks.

I found a guy that CNC's these cutoff shields .... so I'm ganna buy a pair of those cuz the ones I have aren't completely flat and straight which is why the light output on both don't match.

Default templates....

Templates below were made by some else for their retrofit

Templates similar to these will be used to support/mount the projector the JDM headlight housing.... also saving the reflector if I ever want to go back to JDM stock form.

Projector that was mount wrong ... off a couple of degrees.

^^^^^NOT MY PIC... SO NO I DIDN'T MISSPELL ANYTHING

There's not a whole lot to the mounting plate..... it's just getting the projector mounted right and properly aligned.... and as you can see from the pics... just a degree off .. is magnified & very noticeable.
