Default 4th Gen Two Seater Conversion Project (with pictures)

As I'm sure you guys know, Preludes are two seaters in spirit, and the back seats are hell for a grown man to sit in! I decided to remove them, and make it look nice! Enjoy!

First I took out the metal frame between the cabin and trunk, and one seat out for a few days, just to make sure it was what I wanted

Next I took the rear speakers out, and moved the wires to where they would end up, to remove the metal panel to which they were affixed. I discovered it was spot welded on. I should have done more research, there was probably an easier way, but I used a hammer, chisel, and crowbar to break apart the welds.

Next I found there was a part which appeared to be part of the body. Tin snips came in handy.

Note the holes that removing the spot welded metal made... there is a thin piece connected at the trunk lip, so naturally those holes had to be patched so the trunk wouldn't leak. I used Bondo. I also removed the spring mechanism for the trunk door. didn't realize that thing was so damn heavy! I saw on another forum, someone rigged up a pneumatic system for keeping the door up. I will research that later.
After I removed all the excess metal and seatbelts etc, I started building a frame to sit where the old seats were, so the back would be flat all the way.

Then I cut some plywood to fit, and installed the rear speakers to their new location.

After that I cut a port to access the spare tire easily. Then I cut the rear side panels to fit with the new frame, and screwed everything down.

This is how it looks right now. Next on the list is carpeting in the back. After that I will figure something out to cover all the bare metal and make it match the rest, as well as find a better center console to cut to size. Probably some soundproofing in the future too. I will update next time I work on it.

Alright I am in. I used piano hinges for my custom truck floor. Something to consider for your compartments, maybe.

Pretty neat, I'd consider a fairly large brace, a la 350Z, to keep the body stiff back there. a 4-point cage with some body side tie ins would work, too.

5spdh22, you're right, OP should have consulted u regarding plans and materials prior to doing what he wanted with his own car.
