I have bought a 1996 prelude si. The abs light is on i asked the guy that i bought it from when did it come on? He said after he put new brakes and had the rotors turned that the abs light came on. I went to get my inspection and told them to fix it but they said i would have to take it to a honda dealer to find the problem. he said there was no live wire going to the fuse box. Could changing the brakes be the result of this? any suggestions?

more than likely a bad sensor nothing to worry about mine was on i just took my dash apart when i did the blue light conversion and took the abs bulb out

i dont think it is the sensor. i got told if it was the sensor that it come on after you start driving. but u think a broken sensor would cause there to be no power to fuse box?

The first thing you should do is undo the battery for about 30 seconds, then reattach it and then see if the code comes back on the next time you drive the car.

On a 96 OBD2 car like yours I believe you have to check for the ABS codes the same way you check for engine codes, with an OBD2 scanner...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Honestly it would probably be worth it (if the light doesn't go off from disconnecting the battery) to have someone who knows what they're doing check the codes. That will narrow it down for you...a lot of auto parts stores will do it.

Oh, no I wouldn't do that. Just have the and ignition off and disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 30 seconds.

You have to use specuial attachment that plugs into obd scanner. You cant view or retrieve codes from obd port... Once you are in there drive the car and watch the wheel speed sensors.. If on of the wheels values are different than the others on a straight road then you know what senor or sensor ring is bad on which ever wheel it may be.

just jumper out the cel connector under the radio and it will give you the abs code,then google "Prelude abs codes " and it will tell you your problem. Mine does the same thing and its a 96 Si as well..I got money that says its ABS pump motor over run.

you are all wrong you need a dtc jumper that is under the passenger seat to find the codes

that only works on obd1 he is odb2. like previously stated its probably just a wheel sensor. They will show the code all the time. not after driving. My light has been on since i got the car i had a bad rear sensor light stays on 24/7

FALSE....I just pulled my code 3 months ago using this method and mine is a 96 obd2 car....

I assure you...if you jumper out the cel plug under the radio it will display the abs codes on a 96 obdII prelude....Go try it for yourself...you will be amazed
