1992 Prelude SI Electrical Problem: Interior Lights
Hi, I just bought a 92 prelude and all so far it's given me nothing but problems. When I bought it, it didn't have the hazard lights, but I've fixed that. The dash and climate control lights did not turn on, even though I have the dimmer switch turned all the way up. I thought it was the fuse because all of the lights couldn't be out at once. My friend checked all of my fuses and they were fine. He checked under the dash/steering wheel area and found melted wires. He checked for voltage in the wires and only got ground. From that, I found out that my parking lights had no power so my friend jumped a wire under the dash to turn them on when I turn the key to accessories. He also found this hanging under the dash, not connected to anything:

Does anybody know what it does? Will it have any effect on my car?
When I got the hazard lights fixed, my parking lights seems work like normal, but the dash and climate control lights did not come on. I went out for a drive, hit a bump and they came on. However, I can't trust them to stay on. They seem to go in and out when I hit bumps. I can't guarantee that they'll be on when I turn on my car? Since the fuses aren't the problem and the lights behind the dash and climate control seems to work, I think it's the wires. Does anybody have any idea where I should start to troubleshoot my problem?
Sorry for this run-on post but I have a lot of problems with the car and I didn't want to start a bunch of different posts. I'm new at this so forgive me if I did something wrong.
Thanks for all your help.

Does anybody have any idea what that thing does? I know it's a relay, but what's connected to it?

Re: (PrettyLude)
uh.... that's the main relay...if it wasnt hooked up your car shouldn't have even started. i may be wrong about this but when mine went bad, it caused starting problems with my car (which is a pretty common problem with our cars). I can't imagine the car would start without it even connected.

Re: (monalisa overdrive)
Thanks for the info. I guess it's an extra one that was replaced and the previous owner never bothered to take it out. I like my Prelude but I don't think it belongs on the road. The wiring and electrical stuff is really shoddy. My friend found the harness under the steering column with melted wires that they covered with electrical tape. Does any one know how much it would be to replace that harness? it connects the ignition to the starter, lights, windshield wipers, etc. Does anybody know which harness/fuses control the gauge cluster lights, climate control light, and the parking lights? The small lights fuse (20amps) in the fuse box under the hood blows every time I try to turn on my parking lights. I keep reading ground from the wire leading to it and I don't know what to replace to fix it.
Thanks for all the help.
