What type of oil do you use in your yamaha
I was going to change my oil in my yzf600r but have read so many mixed reviews on oil. I went to the store today and saw castrol syntec blend oil for $3.28 a qt. for 10w-40. Now is this oil ok to run in the bike?

I use Yamalube in mine, but I have used the Honda brand of motorcycle oil when the stealership I used to go to never kept Yamalube in stock.
I use 10W-30 in spring/fall and 20W-40 in the summa.

Do NOT put Honda oil in your Yamaha! The oil is NOT compatible, and your bike WILL self-destruct.
As long as the oil label does not say "Energy Conserving" on the little round label on the back, it's safe to use for motorcycles. You don't need to buy motorcycle-specific oil.
I had Honda GN4 (dino / non-synth) in the Superhawk, Motul 5100 (semi-synth...right? I don't remember anymore) in the GSXR750, and Motul 5100 in the KTM.

Yes I have read about the energy conserving stuff in the oil and it seems once you pass a 30 weight they do not use it. I though was wondering if 10w-40 was ok to use. The manual says that you should use 10-30 or 20-50 I think? I also read that since it lubes the trans also a higher weight was reccomended.

Ah, I didn't know that about the 30wt-and-up thing. Interesting.
I tried using both 10w40 and 20w50 in my Superhawk, and didn't notice a huge difference. I want to say the shifting felt smoother when I put the 20w50 in, but that was most likely a psychological effect.

There is no way I am paying 10$ a qt. for mobil one specifically for motorcycles. I bite the bullet at 6$ or something a qt for my car.
I think I am going to get the synthetic blend. I did some research and I have come to see that mobil sued penzoil and another company for using type III oil and calling it synthetic so mobil started to do that once they lost their case and called it mobil 1 synthetic. So actually no motor oil is truelly synthetic.. Actually I do think I read that there are four manufactures that produce pure synthetic oil.

mobil 1 is still mostly synthetic. they use a group IV/V basestock for M1, but dissolve the additive package in a group III. technically it's not a full synthetic because of that, but it's good enough for me...
iirc, royal purple, motul, amsoil, redline, german castrol are all full syn's, but generally hard to find and goddamned expensive.
what angers is me is how much Bert's charges for quarts of HP4

I emailed a few oil companies and asked what the REAL difference is between motorcycle and car oil. basically there is a extra thing in the car oil. (can't remember what its called.) that helps to make it super slick to improve gas mileage but isn't found in all oil. the oil companies said that at worst, it can cause the clutch to slip. ive tried car oil in all of my bike and the only problem ive ever run into was it making my 02' GSXR 750 (which had a clutch that was pretty worn anyway) start slipping. all i did was drain the oil and put motorcycle oil back in without flushing or changing the filter and it was back to normal.
