UM V2S 250R/Hyosung GT250R
Does anyone have any info on these bikes? I read a little about them online but there wasn't much out there. I'm looking for a starter bike and the 250cc seems like a great place to start and the styling is superb for a 250 bike, SOO much better than the ninjas and such almost as comparable to the Aprilia RS250 in styling.
Here is a pic of the UM V2S 250R (the Hyosung is the same bike, but Korean version):
V-Twin Engine here...
Lemme know or

Re: UM V2S 250R/Hyosung GT250R (Ninja 6)
i've heard that hyosung has a "brothership" (whatever that means) with suzuki, which can only be a good thing. but in my opinion dont waste money out growing your 250 in a week, just get the bike you want and get it over with... now, if you wait and find a super super cheap ninja 250 i'd get it and practice off'a that and save money for a real bike
all in all, i think it looks pretty good for a bike i'd get my girlfriend
btw, hyosung is the korean version

There's nothing Japanese about the Hyosung.
There's a decent writeup in last month's Motorcyclist magazine titled, "Do Korean Bikes Suck?". America laughed when the Japanese first came to our shores and we're doing the same with the Koreans.
Like the Japanese, they'll eventually get it right but unlike the Japanese, I think that it will take a long time. Hyundai and Kia have only recently earned respect in their market segment. That said, I think the Korean bike companies will take a long time to establish themselves as independent designers and manufactures and not just cheaper versions of Japanese reruns.
Save your money and buy a used Ninja 250 if 250 is what you're set on. There are many on the market and since the bike hasn't changed in 20 years, there are plenty of parts available.

Im not set on a 250, but from what I've read and heard, most people say thats what you should start on. Plus my dad, isn't to keen on me getting a bike at 18, even though he just got his 1800 m109...he started on a brand new 650

All you need is Proper instruction and a bike with manageable power.
new 600's are very fast but they are still manageable to someone with proper instruction.

i think a 250 is a good idea, and if you don't mind paying a little extra to have a bike that doesn't look like a dinosaur from the 80's, then the UM/Hyo doesn't seem too bad.
honestly, i'd ride one of those over a ninja250 any day, just so it gives kawi a kick in the *** to redesign the f'in bike.

Re: (bad-monkey)
Thank you, that is exactly where I'm coming from. If kawi made their bikes look somewhat new I would be all over it, but this just looks a million times better.

well, there's nothing wrong with wanting both, right?
sure, as long as it has 2 wheels, it's great, but the ninja is offensively ugly, and probably why alot of shallow people end up on inappropriately fast 600's for their first bikes. and these are exactly the kind of people that NEED to start on a 250.

The same article also mentioned that the bike had an extra neutral, poor suspension, and general cheapness. I don't doubt that they can make a good bike, but I won't buy one today. For the OP, I would look into a ninja 500 or Suzuki 500. Give yourself a little extra power. There's the always popular suzuki SV 650. VTwin too. Most people start on 600s despite all the warnings. However, looking back at me when I was 18, a 250 might be the best thing.

I went and looked at these in person today at a dealership just abuot 5 min from my huose and they seem really nice. They are getting them and selling them quick too, just earlier this week they had 4 now they have 1 red one, and they should be getting 4 or 5 more in my next week. any more input from anyone?

Re: (f22 lx)
I would personally go for a ninja 250/500. These are starter bikes and are meant to be sold after you have learned and used them to their fullest. That being said, I wouldn't care so much as what they look like as you know you will sell and upgrade, at that point I would start caring what the bike looks like (something I just realized)
Also as far as reliability, the ninjas have a record since the late 80's with the 250.
