slow 82 hondamatic 450
this is my first bike,i bought it last summer for $250...it runs,but i cant get it over 30 on a straight a way.40 down hill.and it wont climb a hill.would be greatful for any and all the tips i can get

hondamatics were ALWAYS slow, even when new.
there is an issue with air fuel ratios, more than likely related to your CV carbs. I would be willing to bet that the diaphragms are torn in one or both of your carbs. at any rate, it's a simple inspection to check if you are mechanically inclined.
FYI, dont ride a bike in traffic if you are not able to get out of your own way... you will be at the mercy of traffic

Have the same problem. You're pulling too much air. Until you can have your carbs rebuilt, take a piece of steel wool and stick it in the air intake under the seat. You should be able to see immediate improvement if you start it in the driveway and run it this way. I'm running mine about 200 miles a day like this and getting 40-45 mpg.

i actually got it running 50-55 now.sat in the driveway gunning the h%^& outa it. still can't hit the hwy,but i can hit the open roads....had called the last owner to find out the bike sat around the whole time.....
