Carfax equivalent for Motorcycles?
Is there something along the lines like carfax for bikes? I've been looking at a few older models as my first bike, but came across a few 95-98's with less than 10k miles. for a bike thats 10 to 12 years old, you would think they have more miles.
so i went and tried out carfax on the bikes vin... not much information came up as i was expecting. I was looking for verification of mileage or how many times it has been registerred, but the only information that came up was that the bike was involved in an accident with another car. i guess severe enough to warrent a police report...thus the bikes vin shows up on carfax.
now the bike in question i just checked out w/ my buddy and he says its looks rock solid, on the basic inspection. fairings are scuffed from a laydown but thats about it. either they fixed it reaaaaaly well or something is wrong with carfax?
bike in question: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1
I've done carfax's before on cars and the results were alot more information.
sorry for long post:: CLIFFS::
-is there carfax for bikes
-ran a carfax on bike above, came back with accident report
-this owner never mentioned accident
-she got the bike in 04, carfax reports the accident in 02
thanks all!

Re: Carfax equivalent for Motorcycles? (KiddEng)
when purchasing a used bike does anyone try to check out the bike history? or do you guys just go on the sellers word?
i don't want to be shafted and having to shell out more money in the end.

Question
What type of vehicles can I get a CARFAX Report on?
Answer
The CARFAX Database contains over 4 billion records from over 20,000 data sources concerning cars and light trucks manufactured for the North American market since 1981. We're unable to produce reports on other vehicles at this time.
On rare occasion, we will have random records in our database for non-covered vehicles. This is only due to the fact that some of our data sources provide these records electronically and our systems will display these records because they have a valid 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number.
We are not aware of any source of vehicle history for any motor vehicles other than cars and light trucks however, you may wish to try and contact the DMV where the vehicle is currently or was last registered for more information. For a DMV contact list, please proceed to the following web link: http://www.dmvresource.org </TD></TR></TABLE>
I guess only if your bike was involved in a "car" accident and a police report is filed, then the bike will show up. otherwise it may be hit or miss?
