i've always wanted a late '70's cb750 to do this with. came so close to picking one up a week ago. unfortunately, my wife is wanting me to get a bike she can ride w/ me on. maybe i'll do a cafe and just hang on to a stock seat and switch it out if she really wants to ride

hahaha, bike twins, at least until you sell it. I think i'll be getting a new set of gauge faces and headlight visor thing soon, that'll really set us apart, hahaha.

Good luck with the CX650, sounds like its going to be a beast

I am not particularly a fan of the cafe racer style but your CB550 is a beauty

Holy hell lenn, that's a gorgeous bike.

I'll join the list of people intent on buying it from you, should the opportunity ever arise.

How? There's no room to lower the motor in a 750 frame.

Ideally you'd build a new frame and get the engine further forward and shorten the wheelbase...

oops

sorry... top rear shock mounts.

you can easily reposition the engine and even make it tunable like the aprilia mille SP, just need to manuf. some mounts adjustable mounting plates. And if your going that far take that swing arm out and have it triangulated at the front.

If your interested you can mount adjustible triple clamps in addition to using a smaller than normal front rim size

Yep.. we've come a long way in the past 30 years with bike design.

Would be fun to 'modernize' a frame around a CB750 engine and see what it can do. But you still have a 225 lump that you cant make more than 100hp with reliably

It looks VERY well done. Making these bikes look new is a tedious task. Nice job!

Its been a year or two down the line... not too many changes. New tires, chain, sprocket, plugs, wires, points, heat wrapped pipes:

Very nice! I'm actually looking into building one myself. How has the reliability been? Cost spent so far?

Nice ride...

Here is mine... 1976 CB550... w/7k miles...

Clubman handlebars, with the wires in routed inside... It was a bi*ch to run them...
Relocated the ignition switch from the handlebars to the carb area... & reloted the turn signals to the frame...
New tires all around...
Rebuit carbs, top end, forlks...
Originally came with 4-4, but replaced them with a 4-1... with shorten can...
Solo seat, painted & uphostered by me.
Dyna S ignition...
