I'm going to sign up for a motorcycle safety class in a few weeks and I need to get a jacket, shoes, and gloves. I'm guessing that I can use my racing helmet (Bell Sport) will be sufficient.

I have mostly Alpinestars gear for racing so I'd like to stick with that so everything matches but am certainly open to anything. I've been looking around and see gear ranging from extremely cheap to ridiculously expensive. What's a good starting set of gear? I don't see myself getting into motorcycle racing in the near future and am mainly interested in commuting to work for now.

Also, is there a Honda equivalent of the Kawasaki Ninja 250? A lot of my friends are recommending I get a bike that's low displacement and cheap since I'm going to crash it at some point either by falling over or doing something else stupid like hitting a curb or whatnot.

do a search please... there is ALREADY a ton of great information in this forum that is buried a few pages deep.

congrates on thinking about getting a bike... be careful out there and buy something cheap until you get at least modestly proficient... a year or two depending on how much seat time you are getting.

yes there is honda cbr 250 but save your money on that and buy at least a 600cc, youre gonna buy the 250 and ride it for 3-6 months and be bored with it and have a hard time selling the 250..

I been thinking of getting a 250 myself to get back in the saddle since I been away for a long time.

I bought a 2012 cbr250 with 700 miles at the beginning of this season. I grew up racing motorcross so it was pretty natural being back on a bike.

Could I have started with a 600 or something bigger? Absolutely. Was used to riding bikes bigger than I should have racing. Would I take back getting a 250 just to ride for the season? Not at all. It's not all that slow. It's no rocket ship either. Lightweight and won't get you into trouble and easy to learn and master the basics.
