My God! The markup!!!
http://austin.craigslist.org/s...ddTwo=
Cliffs: $22k for a USED Fit Sport at a Toyota dealership near Austin. Emailed the sales guy to make sure that wasn't the price for a NEW Accord and he assured me it wasn't, and that I'd better get down there ASAP because he had people lined up to buy it at that price.
Looked at a used '07 with 36k miles down the street from my GF's house and they wanted $19,500. It was sold two days later.
Are people really going THAT loopy over gas prices that they'll pay almost 50% over new MSRP for a USED car??? Guess so.

Yeah, I did an Autotradrer search for new and used Hondas under $16500, which is allegedly the MSRP of the S, and only one Fit came up. Loads of Civics and Accords though! Looks like dealer markup for new Fits is in the low $20k range too, around here at least.

Re: My God! The markup!!! (BudgetFitting)
Well, Austin is one the nation's epicenters for hipster culture, and the Fit is the automotive equivalent of the iPhone around these here parts. All of the Google and Apple employees in their scarves and Rayban Aviators and girl's jeans and mismatched 'Roos, they're all driving around SoCo blasting Journey's Greatest Hits in their $22,000 Japanese econoboxes with alpacas in the back seats, oblivious or otherwise uncaring toward the fact they're all epic douchenozzles. I'll just keep driving my old, peeling, leaky - but paid for - Pathfinder and getting 16MPG, but with the smugly satisfying knowledge I'm still not a total trendy hipster who in five years will be upside down on his car note because he didn't pay 50% more than MSRP just to fit in with all of the other ******** who just moved to Austin from San Frincisco because it's oh-so ripe for the picking, and isn't our little ol' music culture so quaint? "Man it's noisy downtown. We should get a noise ordinance passed so clubs can't have music past midnight. The rattling makes it too hard to keep my coke lines separated."
Oh, and good luck unloading that 700sqft, half-million dollar downtown loft once you manage to have all of the venues replaced with bars that are distinguished not by the fact Johnny Cash and Willie nelson drank there but because they have a dozen sand sharks in a plexiglass tank behind the bard where they pour $9 Bud Light, you flaming, asymmetrical haircut wearing ********.
All I wanted was a cheap car to drive and a place where my band could play for free beer. Rot and burn.

Yes.
Knee jerk reactions are fun.
Nevermind the fact that the $5000 over MSRP plus the likely difference in price between an existing used vehicle vs. a new one would pay for a hell of a lot of gasoline . . . let's spend a lot of money to save a little bit of money!

Wow... I thought I got robbed for paying 16450 OTD here for a base Fit with AT.
Delta and United both offer one-way trips from Austin to Louisville for less than $330, and 29 gallons of gas would get one back home!

Re: (RJonathan)
Dealers in my area are listing the Fits at $3-4K over MSRP with no options and having no trouble selling them. When we were looking for our Sport manual they weren't even interested in helping us out. They had all autos on the lot, and all but 2 that were coming in the next month or so are autos. We asked about ordering (not an option), or dealer trade but they basically told us to go fly a kite because if we didn't want to pay what they were asking someone right behind us would.
We ended up buying it over the Internet from a dealer 300 miles away. I paid 17,900 OTD for the '08 NHBP Fit Sport manual, but that included tax/title, window tint, carpeted mats, cargo mat, cargo cover, and wheel locks. It was a little high, but much more reasonable that the local dealers who were selling them for that much straight off the boat with no options.

Re: (BubblegumTate)
Well, IMO $18k is just too much for a Fit. I won't even bother commenting on people here paying $20k+... which they ARE doing. It's just crazy. I called a dealer in San Marcos, which is about 30 miles south of Austin, because they had a used '07 base 5-speed on the lot, and it said call to ask for price. He said he had five people essentially in a bidding war over it and was asking $19,500 OTD.
Curiously, Jalopnik has a piece today about economy cars like the Cobalt, G5, Lancer, etc., that are actually seeing declining sales and corresponding OTD prices. The Fit has not only the Honda badge but also the hipster vote of confidence, which is driving prices up well past the Civic, even into the Accord range. Waaay too many dollars for not that much car (albeit one that's well screwed together).
I think this single fact has effectively removed the Fit from my list.

I paid sticker price for my AT sport fit. i believe that was $16,750? the dealer wouldn't go down blaming it on they wouldn't make a profit. so i had been looking for a bbp and they were being sold so i said yeah..i'll buy! after taxes and license+registration it was around $18,000. but srsly! used fits are selling for more than new ones, quite interesting.

waiting for the perfect fit....
yeah...i just put a deposit on one yesterday but I did a lot of looking around. I tried to find a used white fit but the only one that I could find decent and close was being sold for 19,000. I couldn't believe it.
none of the dealerships I went to would budge on the MSRP but luckily I know a salesman about an hour away and he gave me a new fit for 200 over invoice. So mine will be arriving in a month or so

Yes, the markups on Fit's here in San Diego are great (if you can find any). I bought my 08' Fit Sport in Cerritos (120 miles away) for $16,600 otd with all taxes, license, destination charge, hazmat tire fee, and Honda wheel locks included in the price.
Use the internet as your friend, there are still some deals to be had out there...

no way your going to get it. Unlike civic or accord that have 1500 or more built into them the difference between MSRP and Invoice on the fit is $500. Plus everyone is going crazy buying high MPG rated cars the dealerships dont have ENOUGH to sell much less give out deals

I'll have to see what deal they cut me. The sales manager at the dealer is a family friend
