First Oil Change?

First Oil Change?
I really like my 2010 Fit Sport but don't like this "Oil Life" baloney. I'd rather know the mileage on my oil than the predicted time to change it.
According to Honda, no oil change is needed until the oil gets to 0% which I predict will be at about 7000-9000 miles. In my opinion this is too high.
What are your opinions of doing my first oil/filter change at 3000 miles?
Does Honda use a "break-in" oil? If so, how does this oil differ from the called 5-20W oil?
I'm considering using Mobile1 for the life of this car with changes at 4000-5000 miles.

Re: First Oil Change?
every 3k sounds good bro after that there is contaminits in the oil that the engine gives off. so your just circulating it thru out the motor

Re: First Oil Change?
Changing your oil at 3K won't hurt a thing, and the "oil life" meter is total nonsense. It is just a mileage minder, but it doesn't take into account time, and the build-up of water in the oil from condensation. The combination of water with the sulfur that is in dyno oil, and the blow-by contamination in the oil from combustion by-products and particulates from the air, and you get a brew that destroys the engine.
If you can afford the higher cost of synthetic oil changes every 4-5K, your engine will be in fine shape 200,000 miles from now. But change the filter too with every oil change.

Re: First Oil Change?
When I first got my Fit I intended to do the first oil change at 3k but was busy and didn't do it till 5K. If you do your at 3k it will be fine. I'm now using Mobile 1 synthetic and changing every 5k or so.

Re: First Oil Change?
I changed my oil and transmission fluid at 3600 miles on my 2010 sport! I switched to synthetic oil and put honda mtf back in the transmission! I want to keep this car for a long time so....

Re: First Oil Change?
why did you change your trans fluid? it's not the same as the engine oil as far as the amount of contamination that can enter. transmissions are sealed pretty well..
we just go by the oil minder and change around 10%.. but the car is driven 65miles per day on the highway, so it warms up well..

Re: First Oil Change?
anyways, back on topic. there are many cars out there now a days that have the oil change intervals becoming longer and longer. i don't know if it has something to do with people who don't feel like getting there oil changed as often, or oil quality just getting better. a lot of it has to do with your driving style and the time the car is running.
i do change the oil in my miata before every track event, no matter what. the amount of heat that builds with the revs make break the oil down quickly. but if you're running mostly highway miles, 5k is fine..

No it won't help following your totally irrelevant BS advice.

Re: First Oil Change?
Ask the dealer to flush the crankcase with water? It would be funny to overhear that conversation, but otherwise that's the worst joke/advice I ever read. Mr. Suckass, please follow your own advice if you even own a car, motorcycle, air plane, or anything with an engine. When one of those kills you, you won't be able to post your troll-crap here anymore.

Re: First Oil Change?
you should follow the manual. their a reason why Honda made the car with the oil life indicator its not just in their for fun. i wound go by what the manual says 15 to 0%. and one of the reason why the intervals are getting longer and longer is cause oil are getting that much better on protecting and lubricating motor.

Re: First Oil Change?
I went to the Honda dealer yesterday for my first oil change in my 2009 Fit Sport. I'm at 8,700 miles and the computer reads 30% oil life remaining. I was nervous about waiting any longer for the first change. The maintenance guy checked the computer readouts, asked how I drove, and told me there is no need to have it changed yet. He said they could do it now (they weren't busy), but I'm good for another 750 miles and to come back when the gauge gets to 15%. That seemed pretty cool.

To Rick: Since you paid the $ for the OLM system, I'd use it, it's not lying to you.

Re: First Oil Change?
Sorry rice, you're full of ****. Tell us how the meter measures oxidation, particulates, water, and fuel contamination from blow-by. There is no analytical laboratory in the engine or in the ECU. The meter does not even measure the passage of time- just miles.

Still nothing but ignorant **** from you, and name calling when you run out of real info. in several threads at the same time. I will have to see if these forums have an "ignore" setting for trolls like you so I won't be bothered with crap like this in the future.

I suggest you read into it before you flame someone

Re: First Oil Change?
Yeah, you edited your post to include more than name calling yourself, after I responded. You really took the high road on that one. Start ****, then edit, then point the finger.
It senses all that crap in the same way it determines fuel trim, INDIRECTLY based on multiple sensor inputs and look-up tables that were generated based on actual data. Go ahead and "ignore" me just like you ignore the OLM and engineers at honda who know a hell of a lot more than you.

Re: First Oil Change?
if it were simply based on mileage, it would be safe to assume then that all of us would get down to the same percentage at the same mileage, which i can assure you is NOT the case.

Re: First Oil Change?
But as I told the bullshitter, there is nothing in the entire car that can measure water that forms in engine oil from condensation, particulate build-up, sulfuric acid that develops when the sulfur in dyno oil mixes with water, gasoline contamination from blow-by, heat oxidation, and the natural loss of viscosity that occurs over time. My '09 Sport had 4K miles at one year of age, and the meter still said 68% oil life. If you want to believe in some "magic meter" that you think measures all aspects of oil chemistry, be my guest.

Re: First Oil Change?
huh. mine had 20k miles after the first year.. maybe you should drive more. it's better for the motor. it allows it to run at operating temperature longer helping to burn off condensation..
