Did my wife disable our airbags???
My wife got very frustrated with the seat belt buzzer because she typically undoes her seat belt as she enters our driveway and has to endure the blaring. Unfortunately, she got so fed up that she snipped wires under the driver's seat which did stop the seat belt alarm, but now the airbag icon is always on. I had previously warned her this would happen, but... So, I imagine that there's always a possibility that she simply undid some unnecessary component of the seatbelt feedback system, but my concern is that the driver side airbag is now disabled. Anyone have more definitive information?

if she's already in the driveway, why does she have to "endure the blaring", and you know you could have just unplugged the harness rather than cutting it, you just [freak]ed your **** up and if you get into an accident, i can see the insurance using this against you since you tampered with safety equipment, they can legally decline any claims you make
and since the wire is cut now, only the side curtain air bags, and side seat airbags will not function, the steering wheel and dash airbag will still function

unhook the battery and then splice the wires back together and use some electrical tape to insulate. hook the battery back up , start the car and then see if the airbag like comes back on. if not its good to go. if it does , you might have to take it into the dealership to get it reset. but i dont think you will have any problem after you hook the wires back together.

Yeah...I hope he don't snore at night, she might have to bring out the scissors.

I would have slugged her.
You're going to have to repair or replace that part of the harness, and then have the SRS computer reset with the HDS scan tool at a dealership.

..and your wife does?
did your 'wife' really cut the wires, or did you? don't place the blame on your old lady. take the responsiblity like a man.

wow someone is lucky those airbags didnt deploy...but yeah like everyone else said...unhook the battery and reattach the wires and then just unplug the harness for the seatbelt so it won't beep unless you don't want the extra safety in an already small ready to crumble car.

Re: (brand0)
if the wire she cut is yellow or if the connector is yellow you may have to replace the whole harness it is <U>not safe </U>to solder these wires

Re: (fg2si!kid)
You'll need to replace that harness, and if you do try to solder them back together you'll need to have the battery unplugged for 15 minutes. The airbag system holds a charge

Re: (yeamans17)
Thank you all for the worldly advice I've received, especially those who suggested that I beat up my wife. We ended up bringing the Fit to our trusted local mechanic who, for $35 reconnected the wires and enabled the airbag system again. So I'm back to the car that I had before my wife did the damage.

Of course it is our prerogative whether to wear a seat belt; the alarm is ludicrous. I always immediately disable it, just as I did on my 2008 cr-v.
