Default Deltacams

Contacted DeltaCams earlier to see if they could do a regrind on this engine. The gentleman I spoke too needs to know a few things about this engine before considering doing a regrind (if it is at all possible).

1) Is it a Rocker Arm or 'Bucket'? style lifter,

2) If the cams lobes are Hollow (If they are, they can't be reground).

He also was wondering if it was DOHC (Double OverHead Cam) and I stated that yes it it.

I have no idea on either of these things. I'm thinking it is rocker arms because I see this term being tossed up with Honda engine but I need some expert advice. I know where I want the hp focus to and what I'm willing to compromise and where in the powerband but that's about it. Thanks on any help with the info I need.

Any input Claymore?

Rocker arm, Not sure on the hollow part but should be solid because bolts screw into the ends.

Huge thanks! One part out of the way. I'm just going to send the cams to them with this information and hope for the best.

Awesome good to see you back at work on this bad Fit. which method are you going to use to check valve/piston top interference?

That is up to the shop that I have it at. This is a little too technical for me.

**Update 11/6/15**

I have good news and I have bad news.

The Bad News!

Only ran once tonight. The car ran significantly slower with the Deltacams. I went straight to the track from picking the Fit up at the shop. Here was the 1/4 mile time info.

Reaction: .054 (This is of no significance but posting anyways)
60': 2.529
330: 6.983
1/8: 10.568
MPH: 68.62
1000: 13.611
1/4: 16.189
MPH: 86.68

Lost 2-3mph and 5/10ths - 6/10ths off 1/4 mile time.

Everything is slower than my average times of 15.4-15.5. At least 15.6-15.7@88-89mph at 70F or so. Yeah, it's slower. Feel slower! There some low end lost. Wifey said she seems like she has to push the pedal down more to keep up with me (I was driving RAV4 out to track as a just-in-case breakdown). But this is as bad as the news go. Most people know you just can't plop aggressive cams (These are equivalent to their 272 cam grinds on older Hondas) into their cars without a tune and expect gains.

The Good News!
After installing the cams, the car runs just fine. No extra check engine lights (I have only an EGR low flow light from J's exhaust but that's for another thread). The idle is lopey but it sounds soooooo beautiful to me. Gawd....I love it! Driving around seems normal. Just with some loss of lowend. I was not expecting this. I'm ecstatic about this.

I'll be doing getting some data logs with the Android Torque Pro software and play with the Ktuner to record a run or two. I have a Ktuner 'beta' file to upload for testing anyways. In the meantime...this is all I have for now.

That is too bad it runs slower. But knowing you you will figure out what to do to get the low end back. Like maybe closing the valve clearances a bit.

I swapped out the J's Racing 50R muffler to the 2" Max Flo Pro muffler I had installed. It's much quieter. Low end came back big time. It makes no sense since they both have the same inner diameter. Perhaps the ECU ramped up something and changed somthing, I have no idea. I can't see anything through the datalogs. I need to test this to know if what I'm feeling is true. My wife says the same thing after she drove it. Quieter, more torque and picks up much quicker with less gas pedal effort. ?????? The CVT ECU may be doing something that I can't see or measure.

Have you reset the ECM since the instal of the pulley and cams? Easy enough to do simply remove the battery ground cable wait a few minutes and reconnect. Or drive it a bit before your next track outing so it will reset itself.

I did not reset it going to the track that night. It has been reset since the pulley install and cams though.
