Re: Can a Fit tow a jet ski? (madhatch)
The US Fit is rated to carry 850 lbs, total. This includes occupants and cargo.
Sadly, this means actually carrying 5 adults puts the car over its rated weight capacity, and throws out the notion of pulling a trailer altogether.

Re: (eL)
eh, when my wife and i go to VIR for track days in the miata, it is the both of us, a tire trailer, tools, tires, clothes for two, air matress, pillows, tent, 2 chairs, bike, gas can, etc, etc.. does just fine at 70mph..

personally, i think the fit should be fine under 500lbs towing. anything more than that, eh, it'll get a little hairy.

do you have ANY experience at all or are you just saying that?
look people, i know a guy who towed a spec racer ford to/from races, many many miles, with his 1984 Civic Sedan. not a single problem. flat towing. the fit truly shouldn't have that big of a problem towing a jet ski considering i've seen multiple miatas doing the same. shoot, i've seen someone towing a 20 foot speed boat with there s2k.

Iam not saying it will ruin honda fit transmisson that I know of...but I have couple friends that tow with their 4cycl cars and it ruin thier transmission, It's better to tow with bigger rear wheel drive cars. I wouldn't bother with tiny front wheel drive cars for towing.

So, everyone saying "it should be fine" doesn't think that Honda set the carrying capacity of the Fit with safety in mind? Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it is safe to do so...
Thats like saying "it should be fine to hit this random chick you just met at a club bareback". Yeah, it will probably be fine, but do it enough and there will be consequences...
Personally, I can't imagine Honda would want that rating to be any lower than they feel is absolutely necessary. Why set a lower limit if a higher one would still be safe?
And power isn't the only consideration. Since the Fit will not be using trailer brakes, and the Fit isn't exactly blessed with large OEM brakes, anyone want to guess what happens to stopping distances with an overloaded Fit?

Besides the potential warranty problems, I think a Fit would be totally fine towing a jet ski. I've used a 94 accord with 180k miles to tow a 550lb motorcycle on a trailer, and the car did just fine, even up and down Ithaca's hills.
Concerning braking, if you think a trailer with a jetski will really affect the braking an incredible amount on ANY car short of a Model T, I just don't know what to say.
I hate how a lot of people buy huge trucks just to tow some dinky little thing, or haul mulch from Home Depot. I guess they use it as a justificaion to buy some macho bloated piece of ****.

Maybe the k20 is a lot more powerful than a Fit.

anytime you tow something with ANYTHING, you have to be smart about it. you increase distances for everything. doesn't matter if you're towing with an Fit or an F350. you STILL have to realize you're towing. i'm not saying that it's the safest thing, i'm just saying i wouldn't hesitate to do so. i have a lot of experience towing things with the miata, my truck, my companies truck. as long as your smart about it, nothing bad will happen. it's when you forget something is back there that the trouble starts.

it's known in the trucking world that the limits for a truck indeed are lower than what it should be. reason? they know people are going to be putting more weight behind it.

I don't know about that, my buddy has an old Toyota Echo that he towed his quad and his Honda 400 dirtbike on a trailer from San Diego to Arizona. He didn't have too much of a hard time according to him.
I'm guessing the Fit can handle 1 jetski. As for the ramp lowering the jetski in the water, that's a different story...

Re: Can a Fit tow a jet ski?
ldnt mind seeing the video of that... my car is a lil on the slippery side on wet florida roads, much less a slimey boat ramp.
