What are my options???
Hey guys, I just purchased a 98 crv tonight. It runs but does not drive.
The car was originally awd auto, but the previous owner attempted to install a fwd auto trans. While it should of been a easy swap the car is messed up and stuck in gear, the shifter isn't working. Parts missing, transmission solenoids hanging out of the engine bay
The car has high miles and I have a little bit of money to mess around with. Here are my options...
-Finish the fwd trans swap and drive the car( I will do this anyways if he didn't mess too much up)
-fresh jdm b20 swap with matching awd auto ( can't find any reputable motor places like hmotors that offer with a auto awd trans. I will call tomorrow to verify they can't source one)this is the option I really want to pick
-manual awd swap. Transmissions are hard to come by and I don't know much about the shifter cable setup on a hydro b series trans and would prefer a auto for a daily

I my self would not have bought it like that. Should have got one that was running and driving, but that's that me.
But to get it moving, you'll need to make sure you have all the parts and then make sure what parts you do have are working properly.

yup...you bought someone elses problem. hope youre not relying on this to get you to work in the near future. your best bet may end up being a FWD 2wd tranny, but you have to cut a hole in the floor and make a hump for the rods. Ask me how i know.

Nope this is a project and I'm more than capable of doing the work. I just want to get the correct parts the first time. I'm have issues finding info on 4wd transmission compatability through out the years. If anyone could shed some light on that it would be awesome

I'd much rather leave it auto, but I just need to know what transmission to look for. I've seen mechanical with the cable or electronic. And a cel is fine if it shifts fine.

I think I will simply things, just spoke to Steve at hmotors and he advised me against the jdm awd trans. I will simply use another fwd auto, and I might as well throw a clean h motors swap in there too
