Default Problem with automatic transmission CRV 98

Hi..

First: Sorry with my english. I'm form Argentina, and i've a CRV 98 4WD 2.0 engine whith KA 4AT.

The CRV have 245.000 kms, I bought last year, so i don't know the maintenance it have.

Last month i changed the transmission fluid with Honda ATF (genuine). So, the problem started 15 days later. The fourth transmission don wrk correctly: For example: the engine grow up RPM, and the gear is in 3th, don't pass to 4th gear (i don't know if they could understand me)

Are you think that clean the STRAINER COMP., TRANSMISSION FILTER PN: 25420-P56-013 can i fix it?

Item N° 9

Honda INTEGRA 1996 GS-R TORQUE CONVERTER HOUSING - Original Honda Parts | Lings Honda

Thank you.

#9 is a differential. I assume you mean the filter like was stated previously? Also, that is an Integra transmission...

Honda Automotive Parts

So it won't shift to 4th gear or when it does shift into 4th gear the car won't go forward anymore (engine free revs like it is in neutral)?

Thank you for your response.
Yes, engine free revs like is in neutral, in every gear ( Reverse, 1, 2 D3 or D4).
I turn off the engine for 2 minutes, and can continue for five minutes and again.

Sorry, the filter in that link is item #5. (in other link was #9). Do you know if i need clean the filter i need to remove the gearbox?

A mechanic did. I changed two times, always 3,5lts each. with ATF fluid by Honda.

I suggest you follow proper procedures on the fluid level. Please have this done on level ground.

This is different than your initial post. You need to actually describe your exact problem before anyone can help you. Do you have any check engine lights? Based on your response I quoted, your torque converter is most likely done which is common in these. To change the filter it is MUCH easier to remove the transmission...

Hello Esteban,
If I understand your problem correctly, your auto gearbox is not changing gears?
Sounds to me like your SHIFT and or LOCK UP solenoids may be faulty – Check to see if you have 12 to 25 ohms resistance across the terminals'. If you are unsure then you really need to obtain professional assistance with the auto gearbox.

Hi Kev.

My mechanic check the solenoides and computers output. When the transmission fluid is cold, the gear is changing, but when I use for 10 min aprox. don't. So, I think is the Filter Strainer (ATF Filter) is clogged.

I don't have any engine/check lights on.
Do think that the torque converter may be the problem?

Thank you...

Hi,
You need to get your mechanic to clean the filters; it’s a simple job because the filter screen is attached to the solenoid housing.

Its worth a shot to try it, no harm. The main filter is inside the tranny itself, as you stated, so that should be last to do, including the torque converter.
