I bought a 98 honda CRV with transmission problem. Was told by the old owner the ecu was going out. I thought other wise since it only goes in 1st gear and 4th gear manually. After a while the tray went out so I replaced it asuming that that would fix all the problems and bought one off a 98 CRV with 95xxx miles. Turns out it's still doing the same thing. Only goes in 1st gear and 4th gear manually. I try ed resetting the ecu but doesn't do anything. Doesn't change a thing. Also I get the same code P0730. Incorrect gear ratio. Same code I would get with the last tranny. I was told by a transmission shop that it's gonna be and electrical problem after he hooked up his machine and checked it all out. Can anyone please help!!!

Hello,
Just to clarify you have a Mk1 (1998) CRV automatic – If this is correct and you can only get 1st and 4th gears I would suggest the linkage needs adjusting, or you have a problem with the solenoids.

Both my mechanic and the transmisson specialist told me it's an electrical problem

If you’ve already been advised by mechanics' then you need to start diagnosing the P0703 error >>> Torque Converter/Brake Switch B Circuit Malfunction.

Sorry it's not p0703 it's p0730 that's the code

Okay - P0730 = Incorrect Gear Ratio.

Thank you really appreciate it. I think it's gonna be the transmission range switch since I accidentally broke the one on the new tranny and replace it with the one on the old tranny.

Well replace the sensor and still no change any other clues???
