1999 CRV shifting problem
We are replacing a timing belt on our 1999 CRV and have taken the cylinder head off to check the valves. We have tried to shift it into neutral but the gear shift won't move. The key is in the accessory position. Any ideas? Thanks

Yes, we tried that. We are going to try the brake switch tomorrow and see if it is defective. I have read about a shift lock system that says you can override it by inserting a key into the release slot in the upper steering column cover but I don't see it on this car. Hopefully, I won't need to. I'll post how well it goes tomorrow. Thanks for your input.

The shift lock solenoid tested fine. The key is in the ignition position and it still won't shift. We do have the front of the car on jack stands and a jack under the oil pan. Could this be a problem? the shift cable doesn't seem to be in a bind. Thanks for any input.

did you try pressing the brake pedal???
try putting back the batter may be theres an electrical contacts that needs to shifts it..
try playing around w/ it may be the key position is loose...
