Cylinder head gasket replacement

Cylinder head gasket replacement
I was thinking about this when I did my timing belt change. Is there a point when I'll have to change out the head gasket and besides having to disconnect everything from the engine, is it easy enough to do? I know that if the engine overheated, leaked, etc. I would need to this but since that has never happened to this engine would there be any reason to since it's the oem one. I'll upload a pic later but I did notice on the corner of the block it looked like there was grime or something like that which was also why I was thinking about it.

DO IT ON ALL FOURS
Re: Cylinder head gasket replacement
I hate to say it but that is "normal" on the B-series engines. There are more oil drain back ports but some of the bigger ones are on the corners. You would need to deck it to have a perfect seal again, but even then some people still have leaks. Some goe as far as using HondaBond around the passages when they do a headgasket. Pick your poison kinda thing...

Okay, that is good to know. The reason I ask is because my CR-V is at 230,000 miles right now and I'm planning on keeping it for awhile. As far as having a high mileage CR-V when would the engine or various components need to rebuilt?

No, it isn't really worth messing with in my opinion unless you don't like oil drips. No real preventative maintenance other than the usual fluids and adjusting valves quite often. For the most part it is just keep tabs one things and repair or replace as needed. Plenty of these things make it to 300k and beyond!
