Hi,

We have a 01 CRV Automatic with 170k miles. I recently noticed a whine. The whine only happens when I am on the accelerator, which makes me think it's the transmission.

The whine is not very loud. If I wasn't trying to hear it, I probably can't. People that sit in the car doesn't hear it until I point it out.

The previous owner took it to oil change shops and had the transmission fluid change with their "compatible" ATF every other year (30k miles)

The car shifts fine. No rev hangs but a slight flare which I think is normal.

My question: Is it normal? Does yours whine? I did some searching and some people say it's normal and some say it may be a near future transmission failure.

Thoughts?

Mine started to do the same thing recently but only when the temps are really low. The only response I never got was "belts"

I think the car is fine purely based on how great it drives. The sound is just a little concerning.

My friend, who's a Honda service rep spoke to a Honda mechanic. The mechanic said, "They all whine if you listen carefully. Almost like a CVT transmission."

Read on some forum where people have 250k miles and their transmission whined since new.

Also read some people say that their car never whined.

It's just scary when you go on a forum for a specific car and the "PROBLEMS" section of the forum has the most threads and replies LOL
