Default crv mk1 brake warning light issues.

Please help have a 98 crv & the brake warning light stays on all the time. used to come on after 15mins but know is on all the time sometimes if I start car & is not on will only get 1 mile down road & will come on. have checked handbrake switch all is o.k & have checked fluid level all o.k. also disconnected cap but light still on!! any help appreciated kind regards lisa.

Sounds like part of your e-brake wiring is grounded somewhere. The light has 12v+ supplied to it all the time and when you pull the e-brake handle it sends the ground signal to illuminate the light. The downside is anywhere along the length of the wire that gets rubbed through and makes a ground would cause that. I'd try pulling the e-brake handle cover and unplug the wire, then see what happens.

The cap is bad, unplugging it will keep the light on. Jump the connectors for the cap(harness side) with a paper clip or piece of wire and see if it goes off.

I had this same issue. I took the little filter/screen out from the reservoir and cleaned it amd that seemed to alleviate it

hmm Mine started to do it periodically when i would take hard stops. guess i need to check those things out before it gets worse.

Rumor has it there is a TSB on the brake fluid caps.

Just clean the screen and check your fluid level you should be fine.

long shot... happened in 2 of my Vs...
it was just the brake pads really thin, after i replaced them the brake light went away...
