CR-V transfer case strength issue solved.
Hey all I know this pertains more to the guys making power and the AWD converted civic's but I didnt know where else to share. I am the builder of probably the most reliable of all the AWD converted civics. along the way I ran into all the normal issues when applying high HP and drag race style launches to the CR-V transmission and transfer case. I built my car to be a bracket car with the goal of winning championships with it in mind. for this it had to be reliable and consistent. I wont go into detail about any other component here other then the transfer case. Ideas of billet housings have all be discussed and other red neck methods but nothing is cost affective or feasible. After breaking around a dozen of these transfer cases i decided enough is enough and its time to come up with something. So i knew a local guy who is well known to be a aluminum wizard and contacted him and told him my theory on why these housings are breaking. together we formulated what i feel is the best method both for the wallet and in ease to do. So we built the first prototype and off i went to try and break it , let me tell you it was night and day. in fact we made the housing so strong i never broke it but rather i stripped all the teeth off the transfer cases ring gear engagement gear! this still took allot of street and strip abuse, over 120 passes and countless street pulls. dont get me wrong we didnt make it indestructible i still used proper preloading and non clutch dumping techniques. so we decided to do the process on a second one and that one is still in the car holding strong. This method does not make your transfer case impossible to break but it increases its strength many many times over. My car runs 10.6 at 133 with 1.6 60 fts on all season radials and open front and rear diffs and its making 515 whp just to give you a idea. I even pulled the front axles and ran around in RWD mode for a while with no fear of breaking the case. all I will say is the method we use is a mixture of heat treatment on the case and weld reinforcement on key locations where we build up the weak area with slow and careful welds, this mixture of heat treating the case and welding has been a life saver for me. Its a long and pain in the *** process but he has agreed to do more for people if they want. PM me if your interested and spread the word. dont ask about any details or cost in this thread because i am not a vendor or anything on here and i promised my buddy i would not reveal any of his techniques. any way if your breaking the aluminum case it self or worried about breaking one this can help. if your breaking other parts it wont, all he does is strengthen the case. Hope this helps some of you.

Re: CR-V transfer case strength issue solved.
most people dont have have access to the equipment a place like he has does. and he told me most of his tecnique is proprietary, it took him about 2 days to do start to finish. i only witnessed the finishing of the welding when i came early to pick it up. he explained some of it to me but its all about temperature and the steps to strengthen the aluminum and not make it more brittle.

I have PMed this guy before. He responded then and it went nowhere. He wanted me to send money and a transfer case but wouldn't tell me the shop name. Then all of the sudden he PMed me again asking if I wanted to send my stuff to him. Sounds more like he was just wanting to collect parts and some cash. If he wasn't then great, but I always get nervous when people won't give you their name or phone number.

Man that sounds sketchy.
There's no way I'd ship off parts and money to a unknown location. What next? I have a cousin in Nigeria that's a prince? better send him my credit card info so he can ship me a million.
None of this sounds like one of a kind type work either.

yeah I remember reading this originally, and I still think its a dick move. we come from all different places, so we all throw money at this guy and shipping stuff all over the place? isn't the idea of these forums to share ideas and experience, not horde it? that's my issue, not trust.
