Catalytic Converter - California Legal - NEEDED!!!
Hello!
I have had my Catalytic Converter stolen twice in the past 6 months, despite welding the replacement converter to the frame with quarter in steel. They are EXTREMELY expensive to replace... Especially, in California where the part must be CARB (California Air Resources Board) approved...
So... I have a few questions:
1. What is the exact part number for a CARB Approved Catalytic Converter, manufactured by Honda?
2. Are there any third party manufacturers who make a CARB approved , catalytic converter? (if so, are they any cheaper than the Honda brand Cat?)
3. Does anyone have any bright ideas, of how to protect against Catalytic Converter theft, besides welding it to the vehicle's frame, or locking the car in a garage?
4. hypothetically speaking, is there an illegal way to solve my problem?
PLEASE HELLLLLLP!
THANKS!!!

DO IT ON ALL FOURS
Re: Catalytic Converter - California Legal - NEEDED!!!
1 & 2.) The year and transmission type may matter, but I never have catalytic converters so it's not something I concern myself with.
3.) Move to a state with a lower crime rate and no emission regulations. It depends on how they are typically stealing them. Are they just using portable cut-off saws or reciprocating saws? If so, not much is going to stop them, only slow them down especially with the cut-off saw.
4.) Well yeah, shoot the POS thiefs. Or if you have only some morals then just don't run a catalytic converter until inspection time. Make a test pipe to have in place until you need to have the cat in. Keep the cat under your pillow at night during unneeded times.
The sad part in all of this is they aren't getting THAT much money for them. Some of the other manufacturers have a much higher platinum content...
