Re: bypass distributor computer
you can get a amazon timing light for cheap and it'll do fine. all you need is a 12mm wrench to loosen the distributor and a paper clip to jump the service connector.
i'm curious as to how you messed up timing when cleaning the cap as you shouldn't have touched the 3 12mm bolts to get the cap off so timing shouldn't have been adjusted.
if you didn't touch those and you didn't actually move the distributor I would lean more towards your cap cleaning causing the problem and get a new cap.
anyways to adjust timing:
Get a timing light
get a paper clip
get a 12 mm wrench
