About to check out a 99 CRV EX 5spd, what should I look for?

Front ball joints.
Coolant leaks (had to replace the radiator)
Power steering leaks (still haven't found where it's leaking, very slow, I'm thinking by the firewall)
If the center clock doesn't work, you can probably bump a few bucks off the final price. There is a pretty high chance it doesn't work.

cool, sounds like these don't have too many problems. was looking for things that happen irregardless of maintenance like...idk. squeaking steering racks and weird stuff.
Thanks!
Thanks!

202k miles is high but not for these motors. If you can I'd get a compression test done to verify that the cylinders all hold decent compression.
the risk of burned valves at that high of mileage is possible if they didn't adjust the valves ever.
thats about the only worry with the B20 engine.

yeah center clock didn't work, front ball joints/bushings making noise on bumps. There is a dent where the headlight has pushed back the fender about an inch. is there a bracket there so i can fix that or is there bulkhead damage? The hood opened and closed fine, body lines and gaps too. Also AC/blower turned on for like 1/2 a second and went back off?
Other then that, belt was done 40k miles ago and plugs were changed not even a week ago. Smog cert shows an extremely healthy engine. interior is clean. outside is clean (except that small damage upfront) shocks, alignment, abs, cruise control all work.

color me skeptical and yeah people do generally do some kind of maintenance right before they sell a car but the plugs kinda scares me. It screams a missfire and they just threw plugs in and cleared the codes. If you can do a compression test, do it.
I'm not sure what a smog cert really says for the actual health of the internals of the engine.

Maybe see if they will pay to take the car to get the valves checked? Offer to pay half if everything checks out. That way you'll know what shape those are in and whether there is anything wrong.
