I have a 98 Honda crv awd manual transmission. 154000 miles I had the timing belt and pump changed out a year ago and had this problem before the belt change. But here it goes.... When driving the car will do one of three things 1. a slight stutter from 3000 rpm to 2000 rpm. 2.stutter die and restart automatically. 3 stall and die it really hasn't done it that much in the past but now it is dying and won't start for 5 or 10 mins. Yesterday it died after 10mins of driving. Then the motor would turnover but I notice I did not hear the main relay click on. The ignition has been changed out but I have been told the relay will not shut the car off while running. Any thoughts?

Easy to do, and cheap, so worth trying:

Get new plugs ($12-$20 or so)
Clean the throttle body (get throttle body cleaner - about $5 plus, and old toothbrush (free))
Clean the MAF sensor (get MAF sensor cleaner - about $5)
Swap out the PCV valve (around $10 or so at the dealer, $4 at an auto parts chain)

At 154k these are things you should do irrespective. When swapping your plugs pay attention if the old ones are oily or ashy, and if so what cylinder they came out of.

check, test your igniter, i also had the same problem you described until i replaced the igniter and i've had no issues with the engine shutting off anymore.

I have changed the fuel relay and it is running great! Thanks for the help guys!
