Default 2005 CRV and the battery keeps dying

I recently purchased a 2005 CRV and the battery keeps dying. I haven't left anything on. AAA tested the battery, said the battery is fine, the alternator is fine, electrical system is fine, and there is no parasitic draw on the battery. I've seen some other forum's complaining about this problem in newer CRVs, with a software work around. Is there anything I can do for the 2005? Or do I just have to keep getting jumped if I don't drive it for 3 days?

Hi,
I would check you’re AH (amp hour) battery capacity, which should be around the 45AH, unless you are in a very cold climate when it should be increased to 55 for cold start cranking.

I had an issue that the window switch for the back hatch was stuck on. The button on the driver side door was stuck so there was a constant power draw.

It is normal for a car to have parasitic draw due to the control units; what is not normal if there is excessive parasitic draw. The issue sounds like an excessive parasitic draw.

For most more modern Hondas (e.g., 2003 and after), if the draw is less than 50 mA, it’s normal; if it’s 50 mA or more, it’s excessive.

Thank you Kev and everyone,
AAA jumped and tested the battery this morning, said the same thing: no (excessive) parasitic draw, battery is fine. I asked him about the AH, but he didn't know. There is no AH info on the battery, but it says it's Cold Crank (CCA) is 500.

Went to Meineke for alignment and asked them to check this too. They said the same thing, battery is fine, but added that it isn't holding the charge. The mechanic said he has a Honda Odyssey, and newer Hondas just tax the battery, requiring new battery every 2 years. I've seen a lot of forums complaining about this problem, not just the mechanic's word.

I just bought this car about a month ago, so don't know how old the battery is, or if it's a good one. We are in NY, and it has been very cold, but dying every 4 days without driving seems crazy. There are a lot of CR-Vs in this area, there must be a solution. I got the car to move to California, so we probably wont have this problem there, or on the road to get there.

Anyhow, I gave in and replaced the battery. If the 3 different tests were right, and there's no parasitic draw, then maybe a new battery would hold the charge. When they removed the old one it was clearly leaking already.

I don't think this is a real solution, since its a common problem, but I just hope I don't have to deal with it again with the new battery.

if everything is good....

then just clean your battery terminals...or make sure that the wire from the alternator to the battery is clean and tight....

Maybe take your battery to wherever you got it and have it replaced. Could be defective

The OP already replaced the battery, it was leaking.
