While trying to isolate a very annoying rattle, I removed the splash shield. Is there any compelling reason to reinstall it? With the shield removed, it is much easier to reach the oil filter, etc. Does the splash shield do anything of significance, or is it just for aerodynamics? I'm not sure if there is a large risk of foreign body damage to the radiator. By the way, the annoying rattle was the heat shield around the catalytic converter.
