2001 cr-v CEL turns on and off no symptoms
My 2001 Honda Cr-v CEL stays on for a few wks then shuts off on its own. It runs just fine just a bit sluggish on take off SOMETIMES, mostly really cold days but I figure that's b/c it has 243k miles on it. The code was misfire cyl #1. I have been told a few things to get checked as I have already had a tune up and a few other little thing (wires plugs dist cap rotor, oil change fuel pump) and the light came back on.
CEL has been on and off for about 3months but like I said no running issues. plz plz plz tell me what you think

when was the last time your valves were adjusted?
Did you use the NGK plugs?
Is it out of time a few degrees?

Before you spend money on more parts:
#1 Get the codes read if the CEL is on. Most major auto parts stores will read them for you. Expect to get a code for a misfire: 0300, 0301, 0302, 0304 (one or more) and possibly a couple others.
#2 Do a compression check. If I remember right, all 4 cylinders should be within 10% and above 135 psi. Bad compression probably means burnt valves, which means have the head rebuilt.
#3 If compression is in range, adjust the valves if it hasn't been done in the last 30k miles.
There are lots of threads about the valves here on Honda-tech and at a couple CRV sites. Adjusting the valves is fairly straight forward if you have tools and a little mechanical experience.
I like this description for the valve adjustment:

Re: 2001 cr-v CEL turns on and off no symptoms
i have a crv 1997 with 245.000 km and i check the valve clearance every 40.000km and i never had to adjust them.
your probleme could be the icm module in the distributor or the high tension core in the distributor. I had a misfire some times on the first and second cilinder. Not knowing if it was a feul or a electric probleme a apllied a stroboscopic lamp at every cilinder and i didnot have a ignition on the first, a bit on the second, almost normale on the 3 and normal on the 4 cilinder.took apart the distributor and there was a lost of rust inside comming from the high tension cord. i replaced that one and problem was gone.
