Momentum >Power. I've taken beater cars through trails where idiots who try to crawl can't get their 4x4 trucks through. If you keep up your speed and pick good lines you can make things happen. Of course not caring if the vehicle survives or not has its advantages as well!
I will agree with you on that, but here is the obstacle being in the mountains at 8000+ feet altitude (where I live). And a lot of these trails climb to 10,000 & 12,000 ft. or higher.
Every 1000ft above sea level, an NA engine loses 3-4% of its horsepower. Unless your engine is turbo'd. (And I would really love to learn how to turbo my B20B... anyone care to walk me through it?)
So that means that where I live now, the CRV has already lost an estimated 30% of it's horsepower. Once I start climbing to 10,000 I will be very close to only having half of my horsepower available...
That and a lot of these mountain trails are barely 1 vehicle wide, and can be steep, so on these trails you will not be able to gain speed. So in this case, power is a necessity. And yes, obviously the CRV is not meant to, and will not be able to, be driven on these types of trails.
IS THIS THE PROBLEM? I noticed this when I examined the photograph a little more closely. Is this an optical illusion or could this be causing my new spacers to give me too much lift? Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have the car in my possession to inspect, but what is this???
Cant really say if its normal or not. need a better picture to see whats going on. That part is not much to it. It has two bolts that bolts up to the body if i remember correctly
all right guys. i've been sitting here for the past couple of days just reading and skimming through all 60+ pages and i want to say i've learned a lot, but not being so auto tech savy, i still have some questions.
first off, i drive a 2002 CR-V EX 5SP, and although there wasn't much info on the 2nd gen, i loved how a couple of the ones in this thread looked. and that's my main goal, to get a similar look. this is my daily driver and i sometimes take it hunting, fishing, camping, etc. whenever i get the chance. i do come across some trails, but nothing like the extreme off road trails. i'm not looking to lift the car, so i've concluded that i just want tires and rims to get the offroad & rugged look.
i guess the best tires to get are the 215/75/15 to avoid any rubbing issues with stock suspensions.
the 15x7 and 5.45 only comes in the -6mm offset with the rear spacing of 3.75"
i know that spacers will be required but which size spacers would work best with these wheels? and will the 3.75" rear spacing be enough? what does that number mean and what will it affect?
also, going back to my main goal, "the look". i want the tires to stick out from the fenders. will the -6 offset be enough? about how much will it stick out? how does that compare to a 0 offset? a +6 offest?

Kind of wished I found this thread earlier... I went to a discount tire and asked about bigger tires/lift kit and the employees laughed, said it was not possible. Went to an ORW and they ended up quoted me 5k+ parts and labour.
So I'm going the tuner route. How's the acceleration now that you have larger tires? How about the body roll with the lift?
SPACERS TOO BIG.
After evaluating all variables my only conclusion is that the spacers in the rear sent to me from Colorado Mountain Rally are too big. I have adjustable camber and stabilizer end links. I have factory springs and shocks. The previous photo of the trailer arm end was indeed an optical illusion,it's tucked under the car appropriately. I've sent multiple emails to CMR and I've received no response. I'm going to take off the spacers and have them milled down. This picture is the fully installed spacer it is flush with the carbody and installed properly.

Doctor Asian - Not sure where your located but what I did is looked around for a 4x4 shop first and then one day at lunch, I just happened to swing by a Midas shop. I told them what I was wanting to do and showed them pictures. I think they thought I was crazy. They agreed to do the work but I had to purchase all of the equipment. So, I got everything needed - CMR lift, wheel spacers, tires, wheels, etc... They did the work. I then ended up having them do a few more things - new rear struts, rotors, brakes, etc. I did spend a little more money than I expected but not $5K... When they were done, a few of the guys were like "Wow, I really like that look". They were surprised. I just played it off as me being from the south and living in the north and I like big tires on my vehicles. : )
I would bet if you shopped around, you would find a decent shop that would work with you.
Finally CMR is going to make it right.
If you've been following my plight I waited for two months for Davison springs to come in from Australia then gave up. OME does not make springs for second-generation CRV. I then bought and installed 2 inch spacers from CMR and the results are as above ridiculously too high in the back. After multiple emails and finally stalking down the owner of CMR they have agreed that their prototype was a 2003 CRV. My V is a 2002 the first year of the second-generation. It seems to account for the spacers being too big. CMR has agreed to manufacture some pre-loaded struts with spring tension agreeable to me that are also adjustable and could be taken down up to 2 inches. They should come in within two weeks. I'll install the new struts with the big spacers and then dial them back to the level that I like. Will post pictures when done.

It depends with the HDPE spacers. I've got a 1/2 inch cutting board I was going to make some out of and others on this thread have said factory bolts were long enough. However anything over and I feel you would have to get longer bolts.
Awesome V's in this thread guys. Here's mine, it's not lifted yet but will be in the coming weeks. Just bought those custom spacers 1" front and 1.5" rear. Can't wait! !

I have sold these but yes, you take your struts and tophats apart and thread longer rod/studs into the top hats. The old ones will knock out with hammer. Thread new studs in place or You can tack weld them in place if you desire or place another nut/locking washer on the bottom side. It has been awhile since i did it. Not super hard since you can use m10x1.50 studs and nuts and be good.

That sounds pretty cool haha, true that not many people think much of CRVs. I might lift it but I dont know. Im going to play around with a 1.4 inch drop.
I just put on Pirelli P4 225/60r17 with 17x8 +38, and the rear two wheels rub when cornering with three passengers in the backseat. Also with bumps and such at high speed. So I need to sort that out... so I guess I wont be lowering it. Decisions decisions!
So i just bought a set of 4 new AT tires (225/70/16) for my 2005 crv. I have ome rear springs installed with bilsteins hd. Do you guys think i can these install em on stock rims without any rubbing ? Overall diameter is about 1.5'' bigger than stock (about 5%)

ok i need yalls thoughts on this issue. I found some wheels and tires locally that someone is sellin and was wondering what kind of problems i would run into stock if i put them on. They are 235/70/16. That is quite a difference...
on the other hand if i lifted it with springs would i have the same issues i would with without?

what size are the rims and the offset ? and what year CRV ? Will most likely rub on stock suspension tho
