Nice set-up lifted-v. Are those ebay coil sleeves? And how long have you ran it with them? I've heard good things from the civic guys, but they don't take civics off road (I don't think... haha)
Just asking because I just bought a set of ebay sleeves, and then bought a set of coil springs from a racing outfit.

Re: *Official H/T OFFROAD/LIFTED CR-V thread!*
Hi all,
New member 2nd post. I have a 2001 CRV and come from a wheeling my heavily modded 2005 Jeep Liberty (totaled on black ice back in November) background and want to do a little something to my CRV.
I read most of the posts in this thread and the general consensus seems to be that an unlifted 1st gen CRV with stock rims will have rubbing with 215/75 R15 tires. My question is How much rubbing? With the Liberty there was almost always some rubbing with my 245/75 R16 tires but it was not a big deal.
Is rubbing on an unlifted 2001 CRV with no lift, stock alloy rims and 215/75 R15 minor? Only at full lock when you turn? Every time you go over a bump? What is getting rubbed?
I'm looking at Firestone Destination AT's. If I do the calculations correctly I think the stock 205/70 R15 is about 26.3" and 215/75 R15 is about 27.7 ".
Old four-wheelers motto. "Wheel what you got"
I want to do a little something with my CRV becaue it is what I got.
Some info of where I come from as far as off-roading experience goes (I won't post any more Liberty picks).

In better days before it was totaled.

i think it all depends on how good your springs are. the crv's have an issue with developing rear spring sag, which makes the rear end sit low and will cause rubbing over bumps. as for the front, i think it only rubs on full lock on stock wheels

I'm running 215/75/15 TKO's. I'm putting on my lift Friday but now have only minor rubbing on rear fender flare on bumps when loaded.

I am running 215-75-R15 General Grabber's At2's on stock wheels with new OE spec springs (FCS ebay brand at the moment. Very comfortable IMO) and have no issues. If it is original factory springs from 2001 you may have issues. So new springs/struts are recommended. The only load I have carried in the back is maybe 100~ lbs of tools, and my girlfriend as passenger (in the front). There is a bit of sag as noname said, but I currently have had no issues on road. Have not really taken the V offroad since we have a bit of snow on the ground at the moment.
Edit: I generally avoid full lock at all costs. So I don't have any input as far as that is concerned. I have a 97 V, and the only rubbing I was concerned about before tire install, was the metal "tab" sticking out in the rear fender well on both sides (driver & passenger side wells). I had the mechanics bend that tab flush before tire install.
Here is a good visual tire size estimator I found that someone posted before. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tir...0r15-215-75r15

COULD NOT WAIT.
I could not wait any longer on my lift springs. OME does not make a rear spring for a second generation CRV so I ordered the Davison springs also from Australia. It's been two months and they're still waiting to be shipped from Australia. Rocky road outfitters kindly refunded me and I placed an order withColorado Mountain rally for their 2 inch spacers all around. I've been sitting on these beautiful wheels and tires and just had to get some satisfaction, so I had them mounted today with 7 mm spacers. Only one or two little rubs in the back when I hit a bump and was loaded down with the old wheels and tires. The ride is quieter and smoother than the factory tires. I can live with this until the lift comes in. Attachment 387381

Re: *Official H/T OFFROAD/LIFTED CR-V thread!*
Thanks for all the comments on putting 215/75 R15 on OE wheels on a stock 2001 V.
We recently had new struts put on the front but I am not sure if we replaced anything on the rear. It doesn't look too saggy but I will take a look at the rear in the next couple of days and see.
Based on your replies and what I have read on this thread I think I will get the 215/75 R15's when I get new tires and put a mild spacer lift on eventually.
@moun10goat... What difficulty level trails have you run with your V here in CO? I could take the Liberty up most tails up to about 7-8 out here. (That is the Whale Tail on Chinaman Gulch in the photo above.) I would love to be able to take the CRV up places like Jones Pass or Rollins Pass which are 2 difficulty at maximum. I have seen Subarus on them...mostly worried about power on the steep parts of trails. Mine is an auto tranny.

Re: *Official H/T OFFROAD/LIFTED CR-V thread!*
I just bought my V in Nov and haven't hit any trails yet.
Once the snow melts I will be taking my V on a couple trails that my girlfriend and I have taken her 4x4 F-250 on to see how it handles those.
And, unfortunately the CRV is not built to be a fully off-road machine. As most people have stated, it's basically just a lifted Civic with many similar parts and designs. The CRV's Real-time AWD is not a full time AWD either and once the rear clutch pack overheats, it will disengage. I'm not sure how long it would take to overheat, but I'd rather not have my life depend on it.
Power is another issue I'm concerned about, and I don't think the V will be able to climb very well compared to a Jeep or Subaru.
I recently just moved to this area as well, so I'm not familiar with all the trails, and will have to buy an off-road guidebook come spring.

Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails
There are two that have different trails and go to TrailDamage.com and click on Colorado. You can really believe their ratings as members re-do trails from time to time.
And Lastly go to Bush Ducks to see when the mountain passes open after the snow melts. Some won't open until August or event September.

ANY IDEAS
I just put on the Colorado Mountain rally 2 inch lift front and rear with OEM struts and springs. The rear is clearly too high and I can't figure out why. I know the kit is a 2 inch lift all around and is supposed to add a little extra in the rear to compensate for sag but this clearly does not seem right. I did not mistake the front for the rear spacers as they are different shapes and they are not in upside down. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I started by making my own spacers, which worked but where too soft and the tires rubbed. Also, spacers are a huge pain to install.
I then purchased some springs with 500 lbs/in spring rate. Those springs lifted the crv too much and the ride was extremely rough.
So i decided to buy ebay coil-overs and some tall, soft springs so i could adjust the ride height to what i wanted. The front springs that i bought turned out perfect i didn't even install the adjustable sleeves. the back springs were a little too soft and needed the sleeves to be level with the front lift. With the pressure of the spring on the sleeve it was impossible to adjust the ride height. so i gave up and removed the sleeves and used only the springs in the front and back. Eventually, i wanted to buy a longer spring set for the back and i'm sure it would be perfect.
All the pictures I posted are with my different set ups. They look similar in height but ride way different. The set up i have now rides very smooth, I've had them for about 2 Years now.
I recently bought a brush guard at a garage sell, I have no idea what its supposed to fit but it was just $30.00. I made my own mounts and installed it, and i think it turned out pretty good. With the extra weight in the front from the brush guard the crv finally sits level, so now i'm going to leave the rear springs as they are.

Re: *Official H/T OFFROAD/LIFTED CR-V thread!*
I rub because I have 1.5" spacers all around on big bumps with only a .5" rear lift. But that's if I don't slow down for stuff.. without the spacers I'm sure I would rub a lot less as they would tuck into the wells.. But the wider stance is nice and feels a lot less shakey on rough roads... front rubs very very lightly on full lock and big bumps.

Found a roof rack at a junkyard, plastidipped it and put it on, then I decided to wire some green LEDs to the bottoms of the door for fun. I love the way it turned out. Looking for a safari rack when I have the time and money. I just moved to NYC though, very little space for auto work.

I would bet it has something to do with the struts/springs. Either not OEM or on wrong or something. Too many people here have used CMR without having this issue. If anything, we get a little sag in the rear more so than this.
