Re: Write-Up: DIY Front Wheel Bearing Replacement
Great write up! I have an 07 Honda Ridgeline RTS and have never done the wheel bearings but am eager to give it a try. Should I follow the same? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.
Purchase a repair manual, preferably a Helms.
Yes, it should be fine.

Re: Write-Up: DIY Front Wheel Bearing Replacement
Hi, I have a 2000 Odyssey and I justed used this post to replace a front wheel bearing on my 2000 Odyssey, w/ 185K miles on it....it works well and dispells the myth that you need a 12 or 20 ton press....a good heavy vice is a real plus but with the right size knock outs and a heavy sledge hammer this will work fine....btw, I could tell I needed a bearing even before checking for play on the wheel....on the highway at 60-70 mph I felt a slight vibration when road turned to right and was fine when road turned to left...it was my left/drvers wheel bearing....just something to be aware of...thx

What hardware store did you go to get that long threaded bolt and the washers. I've never seen home depot have anything like that.

For the large washers you can get up to 1" washers from Ace Hardware, but the OD is only about 2.5". I got larger washers from here:

All in all a straightforward method, a bit tedious but works if you dont have a press.

Like I said in the How-To you can cut some washers from plate stock or flat stock if need be. It really depends on what is local to you and what equipment you have. One may have to improvise on some things.

OneBadTurboCRV--Great post from 5 years ago. Sill being used by many. The only part I don't get is how can I tell which direction the wheel bearing goes on.

I will try and get my butt in gear and get the update in... Sorry about that, but I don't frequent the board as much as I used to.
I personally usually purchase OEM bearings since the cost isn't much more than aftermarket parts suppliers. Any of your local parts stores can get the bearings.
Due to the bearing design it shouldn't matter which direction the bearing goes in. If you want to be picky just install it the same way the old one came out. Pay attention to the writing on the outside race.
I am glad people are still getting use out of this Write-Up! You are Welcome!!!

Here is another option if you don't have a press available:
- remove, knuckle
- pound hub out
- dremel and hammer inner race off
- use $80 tool to replace parts.

89civicdx - Sorry, but '88 - '91 Hondas don't have ABS. In this application it doesn't matter. As I said before, put it in the same way it came out and you won't have an issue. Obviously that guy in your video doesn't pay attention to things as he clearly stated in his video.
94eg! - Nice write-up addition. I should link yours in my OP and you should link mine for people that may already have some scrap stuff laying around they can make my ghetto press with. That HF tool is pretty neat though.

You are right they don't have ABS. but if you look at the views on your topic it is at 100000 and if you look at the users posting in this topic not everyones name is 89civic or efhatchback. One guy even asked about his EK knuckles.Maybe that guy in the video even used your topic as guide. Don't be so defensive when you can add information "for cars with abs" put it in like this...and make your guide even better.

Re: Write-Up: DIY Front Wheel Bearing Replacement
Excellent write-up and very helpful - thanks for taking the time to do this. Now I have a question about reassembly. We replaced the left front wheel bearing in my son's 2007 Fit because it failed inspection. We're now having trouble getting the knuckle back on. We can get the two large bolts into the holes, but not with the lower ball joint bolt inserted. Vice versa, we can get the lower ball joint started and one of the two upper knuckle bolts into place, but we can't get the other one in. We must be doing something in the wrong order - can someone here point us in the right direction?
Thanks!
Tom
Here's one of my Hondas - all mine are of the two wheeled variety:

"The purpose of this write-up is to make Front Wheel Bearings relatively simple to change out with the basic tools one might have at home."
Great write up..... but I wouldn't classify an angle grinder or air tools as "basic tools one might have at home". And why does the cv shaft need to be completely removed?
