Default Won't go past 3500 rpm

I have a 90 crx -d15b2- 5 speed It's all stock. I haven't changed anything on the car. One day the check engin light came on and now it won't go over 3500 rpms. i've checked everything i can think of. i checked the cat, all the wires, distibator. I can leave the batt. unhooked over night and the light will stay off for about 15 mins. while the light is off it'll rev all the way up. the computer has a little red light on it and it flashes once then 8 times. Can someone help..

sounds like to me that you are getting two cels 1 o2 sensor cel and 8 top dead center cel. First i would check and see if the harness wires and ecu pins are getting the right reading using a multimeter. Then if they are you might need new o2 sensor and new dizzy.

I had this same problem on my 91 lx, i changed the fuel filter and gave it some fuel system cleaner and all was good. Just cause you had a cel doesn't mean that's what the problem is, i was flashing 4 or 5 codes with mine, lot of stuff needed changed, but the car ran great after the filter change. At which time i would recommend a tune up, at least the normal plugs/wires/oil.

i believe 3500rpm is around where the secondary injector for DPFI kicks in... it could be something to do with that.

Like i said, fuel filter + cleaner might go farther than you think.
