wheel offset problem?
A friend of mine inherited a 1991 Honda CRX DX 1.5L from a friend.
It was sitting in my drive for a while, and we had to replace the battery. We took it out for a ride last week. When she got into the car, she noticed a "thunk" as she opened/closed the driver's door (the door seemed to sort of catch on something). As she got out at the store, it was a lot worse, and the door was hard to open past a few inches. When we got home, it was even worse ... and then I saw that the front edge of the door was hitting the rear edge of the front fender, and bending it.
She took it back to a body shop where they had worked on the door a year or two ago.
Their opinion is that the wheels are offset more than the factory wheels, and this causes the tires to hit the wheel well/fender when going over a bump, and that caused the fender to bend and interfere with the door. They bent the fender back out, and it seems to work okay now.
But the car has been running for years on those wheels ... and it's scary to think that going over a speed bump would bend the car!
I would appreciate feedback from the members on this.
Thanks.
Tim

Re: wheel offset problem?
The fender on these cars have about as much strength as a beer can so it's not really bending the "car", but if the wheels had anything to do with it it would have happened at the first big bump after they were installed
