When my civic wouldnt start my first thought was the starter but tested it at Oreily's then autozone and it said it was fine. What i recommend is taking it out of your car and taking it in.. its wayy more accurate. I mean if you havent tried that..

it at first would make a click noise inside near the relay like click click click. when I turned ignition inside in car. but then I got tired and came to engine bay did the manual way. positive wire to starter and jump start. it just rolls over... like idk wtf is wrong with it!!

Re: what are the symptoms if my main relay is going bad?
im having a similar issue, after driving for about 15 min I will park the car and when I try and restart it I get nothing, fuel pump primes, and I hear the click after that but when I turn the key I get nothing, if I turn the key on and off rapidly (about 15seconds of doing that) it will eventually start. any ideas

Re: what are the symptoms if my main relay is going bad?
Hello guys want to share my problem too maybe we can all get a better understanding on this condition... The only problem with my car is that It wont rev over 6-7k RPM's before it even gets to 6-7k RPM's it will missfire once at most twice, then it would just act like my car rev limiter is at 6-7k RPM's... My car cranks perfectly fine and I get spark on all 4 cylinders and at idle the car idles at around 1200-1500 RPM's with no missfire what so ever. The car is boosted and its on a 67mm turbo once vtec kicks in the car just wants to cut of when it gets near 6-7k RPM's
My application is:
Fully built H-series
Aeromotive Eliminator fuel pump and filters(pump new, filter about a year old and the pump has a fuel relay and it also has a 30fuse to the pump + feed)
MSD Digital 7 Plus(about 2-3 years old) and its plugged up directly to the battery
MSD Rotor and Cap(new)
MSD Coil wire(new)
MSD Coil 2(brand new)
NGK spark plug wires(new)
NGK spark plugs heat-10(new)
Whats need in the car:
Distributor(new from advance and its got a Hitachi Ignitor) so Im going to hook up a NEC MC-8132 Ignitor OEM from Honda but its not new its used from another dizzy, before I put it in Im going to add new Thermal grease on the ignitor to make sure the ignitor transfer the heat to the distributors body and keep the ignitor cool at all times... thats something Ive noticed everyone doing it since they say that makes a HUGE difference on how the ignitor acts since the thermal grease keeps it cool by transferring the heat from the ignitor to the dizzy.
Ill let you know what the outcomes are when Im done with the change im going to make... Hope this help anyone and I hope you can share the info to fix the ******* problem... , BECAUSE I WANT ALL MY 9000 RPM'S BACK!!!!!
PS. Let me know if im doing anything wrong. thanx!

"MSD Digital 7 Plus(about 2-3 years old) and its plugged up directly to the battery

Throw all that crap in the trash can and go back to the stock Honda parts.

Re: what are the symptoms if my main relay is going bad?
Here's my problem need help guys I know wrong section but it applies to my problem
Okay so I was on my way to work and half way their I see my cluster lights go on and the beeping sounds it makes just like if I had turned my car off and open the switch for the accessories to be on but the car was still on and moving I even gas it a bit to see if it had turned off. As I pulled into my works parking lot it shut down again and it wouldn't turn on it would turn on for a sec and the turn right off ? Any ideas it's a 5th gen lude with h22a4

If its not the main relay, then check codes for Crank angle censor and cam censor.
Also check the battery terminals if there on properly.

AndreiBB6lude that sounds like your ignition switch, the electrical part. My civic did that (91) I replaced the switch and it never did it again

Re: what are the symptoms if my main relay is going bad?
sorry this is old but im having almost the same probelm.
my 1992 acura integra SOMETIMES cranks but doesnt start due to no spark. some times it starts right up and runs, some times it just keeps cranking over, some times it will start for 10 seconds, idle then turn off and will not start again. when it does start then stall 10 seconds after, it sounds like the main relay clicks once or twice. After it stalled then wouldnt start again, i checked the spark plug wire to the rotor for spark, and it only sparked once every few seconds while cranking. could this be ignition switch? ignition coil? what do u think?
i also had the problem of when breaking too hard the car died out. then it wouldnt start for a good 10 seconds. i thought it might be a bad/lose ground. i rewired the neg on batter to a sanded down spot on the body. and sandy down the valve cover ground aswell.. both connections seem to be good.

Re: what are the symptoms if my main relay is going bad?
I know this is old but I'm having similar problems. I parked my car (98 accord) yesterday for 2 mins and it won't start. My lights and radio comes on but it won't do anything else. No crank no nothing. I replaced the cap and rotor a year ago because of similar problems but it did at least crank then. Please help!

Re: what are the symptoms if my main relay is going bad?
I have a 96 Civic DX and I went out to start it up this morning and Nothing, no Dash lights, no nothing....But a loud repetitive clicking from under the dash, pulled the glove box off, and sure enough the sound came from the relay, and I could literally feel it...One day car was fine, next nothing haha Gotta swap it out.
But I do have a question, does the main Relay effect stuff like, the lighter and what not?

Sometimes I will turn my key and the started won't turn over
But I'll try again and it will work
Does this sound like a Main relay?

Re: what are the symptoms if my main relay is going bad?
I know this is an old thread, but hopefully still viewed.
I've got a 98 Honda crv I'm trying to keep in service.
At first , the car would start fine in the morning, and then start fine after sitting at work all day. But if I were to stop at the store on the way home, it wouldn't start for 5 minutes or so, wearing on my battery and starter. (Gone through two starters in two years because of the wear)
Changed fuel filter a year ago, and it seemed to be slightly better, but that could have just been me WANTING it to be better and fooling myself.
NOW I will be going down the road and it will jerk, stop getting gas, acceleration pedal does nothing. And then the engine will die from fuel starvation.
I changed the fuel pump and strainer yesterday. That was not the cause because it did the same thing today.
Any ideas? I'm stumped.
