Default What oil weight should I use?

I have an 86 CRX Si. I just bought this from a lady last weekend. It has 224,000 miles on it. I noticed she left a quart of oil in the back of the car. The weight was 20W-50 which is way too thick. My guess is she has been using it. I was thinkin of going to 10W-40. Will that be a better weight for my oil use? Also will any specific brand work better than others? I currently use Castrol High Milage since all of my cars are over 100,000 miles.

i say 10 30 whatever high mileage oil you use castrol..if you like it, it will work just as well on a honda..she was probobly using thick oil thinking it would be harder to leak out, for the high mileage of course it probobly didnt hurt the motor

10w30 or 10w40 is fine. If you notice you consume way too much with a thinner oil, i.e. 10w30, then next time use 10w40. I dont recommend gtx high mileage, just stick with regular Castrol gtx dino, its on sale at Kragen for about 1 dollar a quart.

10W-30 or 10W-40 is fine for California use.

I've tested 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40, and 20W-50 Castrol GTX (regular) on my 257,000 mile D16A6 under both daily driving and autocross/HPDE conditions, and found that the oil consumption difference between 10W-40 and 20W-50 is not worth the step up in viscosity.

So since my car consumes some oil I should try a higher weight oil like 10W30 or 10W 40?

I was told that once you start using a thicker oil, you shouldn't go back to a thinner oil coz your engine has already adapted to the thicker one.

Feed back please.

not at all true. it all depends on the internal wear in your motor, the viscocity will not affect anything within reason. if you use a lot between changes then use a higher weight oil, if not, stick with 10 or 5w30.
