The car vibrates when rolling. You can see the steering wheel do slight movements at low speeds. The vibration increases or is proportional with speed.

So far this is what I had changed;

tie rods,
passenger axle,
had all wheels balanced,
and a wheel alignment.

IT STILL VIBRATES. It looks like a bubble in the tire, but I had them checked, balanced, etc.

I'm gonna have the brakes changed next. It's been vibrating upon braking for a while. But this vibration is during acceleration also. PLEASE HELP!!!!

its a stock 91 si. I already had an alignment done.

bad wheel bearing? did you jack it up and wiggle everything to see if its loose? did you swap the front and rear wheels? did you put it on jack stands and get the wheels moving and see if you could see whats happening?

if you can grab the passenger side inner tie rod and move it up and down more than the passenger side theres a white plastic bushing you can replace in the end of the rack . seems like that just makes the steering sloppy if it goes out not vibrating.

the tranny could have a bad bearing like mine does. it makes it so you can lift up on the axle where it goes into the transmission. so when it spins its not centered anymore and makes it vibrate. sometimes its hard to diagnois Ive had a axle nut come loose and make a thunk as it slid back and forth in the hub. but it went away after tightening it.

Yeah the mechanic wiggled the wheels. The passenger side was slightly loose, so they replaced the tie rods. Then they said my axle was bent, so that was replaced. Then they balanced and rotated the tires. The only thing I didnt check for was a bad wheel bearing. What are the signs for that? I do not have a place to work on my car ,so I have to go to a mechanic.

Oh yea steering isn't sloppy at all. The steering wheel just moves back and forth, like when you have a bubble in one of your tires.

Can a wheel bearing cause that???? There's no noise at all (Well tranny bearings are going). But I've had cars like this before and never had the steering movement as described earlier.

+1 A seized caliper or rubbing break can f-with you, but I'm honestly not sure either - I've got the exact same problem on my CRX and I've checked the suspension, everything seems pretty good.

Next step I'm sinking $1k into replacing shocks & struts, hoping for the best.

Ok to replaced the drivers side axle, and machined the brake rotors. Same problem.

I have no idea what else to do.

So far.

1) Both axles changed
2) Both tie rods changed,
3)wheels rotated and balanced
4)Wheel alignment


Maybe it could be the wheel bearings.

Chasis bushings...
My old EG had all worn out bushings and used to vibrate like crazy, especailly at highway speeds.

I think it might be the chassis bushings then. While doing 60 I would shut the engine off to see if it was the mounts. The car would still vibrate. I also had the brake rotors machined and It made no difference. It just seems weird this just started like two weeks ago.

Yea, check your upper/lower ball joints/bushings. If there torn and grease is out then that would cause a vibration.

sounds like the wheel bearing to me. I still havent got mine replaced, all it did was vibrate worse as u accelerate, mine would happen off and on. but I took it to a shop and they said it needs anew wheel bearing change urs out, its doesnt cost that much

you dont fix a blistered tire by balancing it. you replace the whole tire.

did you replace the tire?

There is no bubble in the tire. I was just giving an example, that the steering wheel shakes as if there is a bubble in the tire. I have had the tires checked, balanced, and rotated they seem to be fine. If a belt was loose in the tire wouldnt the balance be off???

The only thing left to do is check ball joints. bushings and bearings. I'll try to get to that this weekend. I'm out of money now fixing the wrong ish.

The steering wheel acts the same as if there were a bubble in the tire.

youd think a mechanic could figure out whats wrong with your car.. maybe try a different place. id go with wheel bearing.. but usually those make a loud noise or rubbing noise when they go.

threading messed up on the wheel stud closer to the hub??

Check the lugs make sure they are on tight and stay tight.

flat spot in the tire,I have this problem because some *** cut me off on the freeway and my brakes locked for like 4 seconds, not very visible but i bump along a lot

i had this problem too. i fixed it by replacing the upper and lower ball joints. I also have this problem on my 1991 std. When i had the car checked out he said that my upper ball joints were bad and it was shaking the car. so im having them replaced this week. by the way you have to buy the honda upper A arms to get decent ball joints. Honda sells them with ball joints and i've heard that the aftermarket ones go out in a year or two!

i got a similar problem tho it only happens on the brakes hard at higher speeds (70+). i get no vibration thru the peral, i recently repainted the wheels and discs dont looked warped but i get hella vibration thru the steering. faster im going when i brake hard, faster it vibrates the wheel back and forth.

only think that im aware of that could use replacing is a CV joint as it clicks on full lock but i dont think that would cause it? also rotated the tyres/wheels when i refitted them after painting. its perfectly smooth and normal except for high speed hard braking. otherwise acceleration, rolling, braking is perfect. oh and the wheel bearings are cool so its not them. i had one whirring in the rear but replace it, others are fine.

only other issue im aware of is the tranny making darth vader noises occasionally.. probably clutch release bearing or whatever its called in a honda. nothing major tho. will replace it when it gets a new clutch whenever the hell that is lol
