I believe my starter went out on me. I took it to a autozone store and tested it myself and it seems a little dry at 8 voltage. From the selonoid it seems dry. Is there any way to fix this? Cause it still works and all just takes a while to start the car up. I didn't want to pay 140 for a aftermarket starter at autozone. Oem is better...But if you can't rebuilt it, What motor would i get the starter off from? I'm running a sohc zc 1.6L single cam . Thanks.

you can use any d-series starter (depending on the year of you motor) if you got an obd-0 you can pull a starter from 88-91 civics/crx's i hope that answerd your question

the auto starters are different, so avoid them.


Autozone carries two brands of starters, they have a $60 one that works great.

What to you mean when you say it's "kinda dry"? And you say it *works*, but it just takes a long time. Do you mean you have to crank the car over for a long time before it catches and runs? If so, that's not your starter giving you trouble.


Depending on where you live, you can likely get your starter rebuilt locally for a whole lot less than buying a new/remanufactured one. I had mine go out on my '91 Accord; AutoZone wanted $171 for a reman. I got it professionally rebuilt locally for $70. Been working fine for three years now...

maybe check timing, i read a few days ago thatif itsoff it couldd do that,

So just to clear things up 92-95 D-series starters are diff. then 88-91 D-series starters?

I got a Pep Boys starter for like 70 bux. Been working fine for 2 years now.

I know '90-'95 D-series starters are practically identical. I am using my '90 STD starter on my d16z6 engine. Works like a champ. I am 95% sure that any '90 to '00 D-series manual transmission starters are interchangeable. As far as '88-'89 go, there might be an issue because the flywheel is smaller in those years. I am not sure about those.

Damn Im using my 89 Si tranny/flywheel on a D15b7...I forgot that the flywheel is smaller.... Now dont know wat starter to use...

I think you'll be fine. As far as I know, the flywheels from '88 and '89 have the same OUTER dimensions as the '90 and '91s - it's the FRICTION SURFACE for the clutch disk, and possibly some of the dowels for mounting the pressure plate, that are different. I believe I used a '91 starter on my '89 D16A6 without any problems.

Well put, this is true, the dowels for mounthing the pressure plate are different.

That is why i ended up using my 89 Si clutch/flywheel instead of the B7 that came on the block. I just ended up choosing to go w/ the clutch and flywheel that came w/ the tranny.

i went to pick n pull this morning and was looking for starters off 88-91 Civic/crx and integras. I unbolted a start from a 89 integra that on the outside looks the same but where the spindle spin, it has a half cut CONE on it? and my original one didn't. Would those fit? I didn't buy it yet.

Exactly What year of cars can i get it off of? Give me a few so i can look around. Stating one type of car and it's year isn't gonna help Junkyard doesn't have that much variety of honda. yup Thanks.

would it matter if it had that half cone protecting the spindle that spins at the end?
Cause the d 15 and some d16 starters i took out ALL had that cone....
