Default Transmission Issues

Hi guys,

I am having some gearbox issues and thought of posting here, maybe I'll get some insight. Just to get you in the picture, I just did a B-series swap in the EF type Civic. I put a B16a from a JDM EG2 (Del-Sol SiR) in my Civic, which came with a Y21 gearbox. Before I put the engine in the car, I opened the gearbox and put an Mfactory helical LSD, along with new differential bearings. I don't know if this could make any difference, but at this stage, we fit a Fidanza lightened flywheel and an Exedy stage 2 clutch.

After the first couple of kilometers, the gearbox was throwing the 4th gear out automatically whilst driving. So, I got the gearbox opened to get it checked out. We found the following part on the top of the main shaft had been damaged.

Apart, due to this, parts rotating on each other got hot and the following were stuck to each other.

So, after all this happened, I bought the parts that were damaged new and they were replaced. Whilst I had the gearbox open, I decided to change the synchros to carbon ones and I changed the 3rd, 4th and 5th gears to close ratio ones from ATS.

When that was done, I started driving the car slowly and after around 50km of use, I started hearing some strange noises from the gearbox. So, I did not take any chances and got the gearbox opened again to check what was going on. To my surprise, I found that the exact same problem had occurred again.

I really don't know what is going on. I am pretty sure that everything was aligned well in the gearbox before it was closed, including the stopper plate at the top of the main shaft. The gearbox housing was closed without any effort, so everything should have been aligned properly.

Has any of you guys met with this problem before?

Any input will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Chris.

Default Re: Transmission Issues

pretty sure and 100% sure of assembly are 2 very different things. My money is on there was a major assembly problem. did the transmission spin and shift into all gears and reverse by hand before you put it back in? the pictures don't really show much of anything except that some bearings clearly overheated which is evidenced by the burned on oil. You also never said anything about shimming the diff for proper clearance, which is a requirement when replacing the diff and bearings.
