tons of glee.... now with pictures
Some may know the story but here it goes...
Much toil have I experienced of late:
Last October I was the victim of bad weather. It was raining like crazy and despite my best efforts driving slowly, I was involved in an accident. I crashed my b16a powered 88 crx si, still owing a grand on it. No collision insurance . Luckily my b16a was unharmed. So, I started looking for another crx to put it into. I found an 88 civic lx that needed a motor for $250.00. NOT QUITE MY STYLE. But, I kept the thought in the back of my head. THEN--- I found a beautiful 90 crx. No rust, great interior, good running, well kept car. It was pretty cheap for only $1700 and in good running condition. Only a few cons:
1.) DX -> DPFI, never done the MPFI conversion before, and wasnt looking forward to it when i install my b16a.
2.) Automatic -> never done a manual conversion, good god, this looks like its gonna be a pain...
Putting the b16a in the 88 si was cake. But this I knew was gonna be a little harder.
So, needing a car to drive, while I educated myself on this huge project, I also bought the 88 lx. I pulled the motor from the new crx and put into the civic. Instant transportation... nice civic lx, power windows power door locks only 250 bucks, thats not bad. So i had transportation! But i still had to put the b16a in my new crx...
So, without a garage, in the freezing cold weather of late november and december, I took my time and educated myself on DPFI->MPFI (much thanks to the board members that helped) and also the auto to manual conversion.
After about 2 weeks of working in my spare time away from work and school, out in the cold, I installed the manual pedal assembly, replaced the auto shifter with manual one, did a little rewiring for manual transmission, rewired for mpfi, dropped the b16a in, relocated battery to rear, and tonite finally tried to crank it up. So, I turn the key, and it fires right up. I don't think I've ever had a bigger smile. I was running around the neighborhood screaming and bothering everyone there was to bother, it was great.
Anyways, what I'm getting at is that, yes I've done a lot of work, but I wouldn't have been able to do any of it without the guidance of the members of this board. This forum is by far the best Honda forum ive used so far. Thanks again you guys who helped me.
I'm going to take pictures tomorrow if anyone wants to see, I'll probably post them.
And also, now that I know how to do this, I'm welcoming questions.
Thanks for reading my novel,
Ronnie

looks like the rex is in pretty good condition and much props to ya for that work.
Hopefully I won't have to ever swap out my crap into another car.

Good job man!!
I did a similar thing as well except I just put the A6 into my CRX but I had took 3 CRX's (2 Si's and 1 auto DX) and made 1 out of it. So I also did the auto to manual conversion and the wiring for the auto but I went one step further and didnt want to mess with rewiring so I took the whole 91 Si harness out and put it into the 91 DX and so I basically transformed my 91 Auto DX into a 91 Si (minus the sunroof )

Congrats man....its soo worth it when that thing fires up. ITs gratifying knowing you did ALL the work yourself.

Nice *** WINCH there !
good job on the rex, I bet the hardes part's was to put the Manual assembly pedal up there... nope?? that was in my case, it was a pain in the *** for me to fit under the damn dash.
anyway good job, keep up good work man and keep it clean

Re: tons of glee.... (kranked91dx)
that was indeed the hardest part: putting in the pedal assembly...everything else is just a matter of understanding.

ok I do have a question for you. I have an 88 crx HF that I'm going to swap in a b16a in just a little while (already have the motor), so is the dx the only model of crx that is wired up for DPFI instead of MPFI???

Re: (screamincivik)
actually i think he made the trailer just a few years ago out of rusted metal.... hes got so much scrap metal that he makes crazy stuff out of...hes really inventive...hes helped me a lot with cars throughout the years.
