a ticking noise from the b16a
i have the b16a first gen in my 1990 crx, after taking it to the track i started getting a ticking noise from the head of the motor. thinking the valves needed to be adjusted, i got them adjusted. not once, but twice. ticking noise = still there.
i seem to only hear the noise when im out of vtec. after reading a couple websites one night, there was a topic talking about "Sea Foam" which is supposts to cure sticking lifters & valves, and other stuff as well. so curious i tried it. the stuff worked somewhat, but the ticking noise still haunts me every now and then. any suggestions of what it could be? and my car blows blue smoke now , notice it was burning oil with mobil 1 synthetic as well..........
thanks

It would appear that you broke something. Do a compression test, you may find bent valves. A leakdown test will be helpful too.

I have this ticking sound too from my first gen b16. It comes and goes and I don't hear it when I'm in vtec either, but my car doesn't smoke. It's really annoying, glad to see that someone else is having this problem.

if i had a digi cam or sound recorder. i would let you know how my engine sounds. i for one know that i need a valve adjustment and obd1 injectors.
maybe you have a minor axle/cv click that comes and goes i once had that problem. you did run at the track.

Check the health of the motor. At least do a compression test but preferably both compression and leakdown.
If it is ok I would look into the LMAs or the injectors.

My B16 in my hatch ticks as well. Just adjusted the valves. Pretty sure it's the injectors. The car runs fantastic, so pretty sure it's nothing wrong inside the engine.

Those 1st gen lost motions suck. Next time you pop the valve cover, push on the middle rocker I bet its pretty dead. Should be a bit tight to press down. I went through the same thing before.

Re: a ticking noise from the b16a (allshowcrx)
outside of h.t i was told 2 different things
(1) i adjusted my fuel pressure to high, which resulting in cracking the tips of my injectors. -only heard it from one person
(2) the lost motion dampeners in which i heard from 2 people, and plus everyone on here that has mentioned it. so im gonna use my first lifeline and trust the audience
i was told to use type-r lost motion dampeners. go figure they would be stronger. what does everyone think?

This is who and where I got the lmas from to fix a noisey b16a. The valvetrain
noise was eliminated. If you are ever going to upgrade your cams these are pretty much a necessity.
