Default temp. past High...help

so i put a brand new radiator in my ef today..new coolant etc....i also took out the cluster to paint the needles orange.......when i put the key in ignition to second click the temp just raise to H THEN PASSES IT.....i try to adjust it while the car was on (move the needle)..when car is off the needle is at cold...so i drive the car and it stay on HIGH but not over heating..never happend with other radiator? any body help?

Grab a multi-meter, pull the connector off your temp sensor and see if its in spec.

BTW, about how much should a new rad cost me? mines hissing pissing everywhere

It wouldn't have anything to do with the radiator. Something's happened when you pulled the cluster out.

try the radiators off ebay...cost 48$ shipped..ive had them before and never had a prob.............

i even disconected the battery and ecu..just incase there was a glitch..idk...but still the same



......maybe a fuse or relay???

So does the temperature spike as soon as you turn the car on, or does it slowly move up beyond H?

If it spikes then it's definitely an electrical fault. If it takes about 5 minutes or so to get high than it could be a blockage in the radiator or trapped air from a poorly bled system.

Did you by chance remove the needles from the cluster for the painting?

no i didnt not remove them just masked the up with tape.....

Is the radiator cap hot? Sounds electrical though, i don't think it's possible to overheat a car in 30 seconds, unless you didn't have any water in there, and if that was the case, the car wouldn't read hot. Do you have an online manual you can troubleshoot from? They're quite handy when tracing circuitry.

I replaced the radiator on my Civic refilled it, started it up, drove down hill 3 blocks, at the stop sign my temp gage was up to the H. It turned out to be air in the system once I got it out it went back to normal
