Usually more loose on the water pump side? Mine seems to be the exact opposite. I did mess with a tensioner a bit, but it didn't help much. New crank pulley and bolt is coming in soon, so I'll mess with it some more when I take stuff apart again

I rarely post on here...more of a lurker, but I saw this thread and saw that nobody has actually told you how to line up the cam yet...

There are two marks directly across from one another on your cam gear, on DX models, you line those up with the surface of the head. That's NOT the case with A6. There's a notch underneath the two straight marks that's on a slant...you want to line that notch up with the little arrow that's on the back of your timing cover...in reference to your picture, the arrow is actually right around where the "UP" is on your cam gear, so when that's done, the "UP" mark is actually pointing more towards the front of the engine bay.

..and yeah if your timing is off, it will rob you of quite a bit of power. When I first got my CRX it was timed incorrectly and I experienced similar symptoms to what you're experiencing.

Hope that help!

So do I line it up with what's in red, or in yellow? Or is it something else?

Just to update, I got a new crank pulley without holes, and put it on just now.

I also triple checked the timing, made sure it's correct. Looks like I was off by a tooth last time.

Definitely feels like it has more power, and no more rattling under acceleration. WHOOHOOO! Thanks for the help everyone

Normal plugs should be a tanish color, not black. Do a google search on how to read spark plugs.
