Default stock b20 block and b16a head

yes i have did a search on it but no one has really talked about a stock b20 block and vtec head. what happens if you just put the b16 head on a stock b20 block? do you HAVE TO change pistons and resleeving? and what kind of power will it come out if you just have stock block and vtec head? thanks.

a stock b20 rlines at like 6000 and that`s what it was made to do . don`t go past 7800 plz . most power will probably drop off around there , so i have heard.

I have a b20/vtec... completely stock bottomend & stock b16a head w/ cam gears.

I can go up to +2 on the intake side w/ my cam gear. +3 is really damn close on the clay clearance. ( I think it was like .015 or something) & +4 was valve into piston in VTEC.

I have had mine for 40k miles now.... 8300 rev limiter. Hp on the dyno drops off about 6900 & the tq flops about 7200. The engine speed is still going up, so I keep on revving it out on the track.

out of a stock b 20 vtec you are looking at around 160hp and 120-130tq with i/h/e and some tuning 170 plus easy out of a b20vtec

with a b16a head it would have a different redline since it will have b16a cams. cams are what makes the powerband change. Id say throw some arp fastners on the b20 block and rev it up as far as the cams make power

red line is all in the head. i run a b20 in a 90 si (hatch) going into 2nd gear it hold the tires spinnin at 7000-7500 rpms dependin on how she fells. have yet to be beat by any civic or crx with b16 n\a or civic with sohc vtec turbo runnin 5- 6 lbs pounds beat me. yeah they can take the risk boost it up for the victory. i **** at 7600 cause thats where the b16 head stop makin power.

im talking about as far as making power.

the redline isnt all in the head, its been proven that the stock rods and rod bearings cant handle 8200 rpm's

it will for a while but it wont last forever, if you got the money for extra blocks then do it this way by all means just dont expect it to last for more than 20 thousand miles before you need a rebuild.

dynos of b20/vtec (theyre not stock but with some mods you could be looking at some very big results):

so you guys are saying stock b20 block is not reliable? how long will it last? whats the best redline for it? ive did a lot of research on this sucker, and it seems like almost everyone changes their pistons and resleeving.

pretty much
the block isnt meant to handle to 8200 rpms everyday so when you do that your gonna break something simple as that

the only reason i would get a b20 is if i couldnt find a b18 for cheaper.

and usually you can find b18s for cheaper, there isnt anything you can do to the b20 block without having to have it resleeved, the stock sleeves cant handle better pistons etc.. because they are thinner, i dont think honda ever thought that a crv motor would be a contender for a performance engine, i know i sure as hell never thought it would.
