Default 91 Si Hatch motor swap?

My friends 91 Si hatch had a DOHC ZC swapped into, last month he spun a bearing and decided he didnt want to try and machine the crank etc...

So he offered me 1000 for the shell and pulled engine/tranny. I know its a great deal, especially for a really clean ef, but i dont have the funds for it.

What i want to do is sell my ef sedan, buy his shell and drop a d into it, but i dont know that much about motor swaps. Im estimating i will have around 700 to blow on a motor and all the misc..

My question is how hard will it be to throw a d series into it? since the ZC is considered a d will everything match up well? will i have to buy anything extra besides the motor/tranny?

Will i have to buy Headers? ecu? intake?

Oh and how long will it take? hopefully i can finish it in a weekend. the sedan is my daily driver, and i have a commute to work...

Well I doubt you could get another DOHC zc for less than $700 (I did but still). I'd say your best bet would be to get a d16a6 (or sohc zc non vtec) because its the closest to a dohc zc (just slightly different dizzy wiring). And I dont know if youll need header, ecu, intake is he giving you those with the shell? If not then ummm yea...
I couldn't tell you if you'd be able to do the swap in a weekend (don't know your mechanical abilities and if you run into any unforseen problems) .. but I did mine in a weekend and I had to take out the motor and if you have a shell thats already done for you.

I put my ls in my hatch in a weekend including taking the motor and trans out but not all people are capable of accomplishing that much work in a weekend. You can get a D15b2 for about 400 dollars a sohc non vtec zc would be a faster motor and more like the us d16a6. If he is giving you the intake manifold, exhaust manifold and trans you can use them all.

Actually he couldn't use a dohc zc intake manifold on a d15 or a d16 they have different bolt patterns. But you could use the header, trans and ecu (just might be a little rich and higher rev limiter)

You could probably find an A6 motor and trans for super cheap just to get it up and running. Depends on where you are, but they are usually a dime a dozen and could be had for under 500 easy.

you could use the header, trans, ecu and if its obd0 probably the harness too. just go down to a junkyard and see if they have any d series motors on the shelf already taken out, d16a6 single cam zc d15b2. it wont be hard to throw in a d series it'll bolt right up, should only take a weekend with all the parts.

where are you located? i have a d15b2 complete motor trans ecu with an a6 head for 300.

info i wish i knew when i started Hondas...

All d15 and d16 SOHC are interchangeable as far as heads, intakes, exhaust manifold...

Any D-series transmission can go on any D-series motor. (D17 is a bastard child, I don't consider it a D) be wary of hydro vs. cable. your car is cable. you can only use a cable-actuated clutch.

axles match the transmission. DOHC ZC axles are equal length with an intermediate shaft on the driver side... SOHC axles are the same from 88-91 excluding HF and STD models.

if your ecu says PM6 on it, then a d16a6 swap should be no issue at all. DOHC ZC can run off of the PM6 or the 88-89 Integra ECU.

hope that helps!

Thats all true except when it comes to the d16 from the 86-89 integra. That trans doesnt bolt up to any d series engine.

But if he gets a d15b(vtec) then he would have to convert to obd1 and wire up for vtec(that would be more then 700). Or did you mean a d15b2?

There is also a D15b non vtec for the 88-91 chassis so no conversion would be needed.

it all depends on what you get your motor for.
considering I have a $90 ebay harness that has held up all summer in 40* Celsius weather... and vtec doesn't "cost" anything to wire up...

The OP said to get a d15b from tigerjapanse which is 650. And he said that he isn't that experience at swaping so it would only be free(cost of wire, solder gun,tape/heatshrink) if he made his own jumper harness instead of buy one.

you make me lol. people with their over-priced jdm motors.
if people weren't so lazy, they would find a junkyard motor and pull it themselves.
if people weren't so biased, they would buy an ebay harness.
and save several hundred dollars.
but that's not what we're all about. damn capitalists.

Yea I got my JDM dohc zc by trading my ricer exhaust and I even got back seats(+cargo covers) with it too. Craigslist is your friend.

good news! i got a job at Jiffy Lube, and my buddy agreed to a 300 dollar down payment, and then gradually pay it off as i get paid. no now i can keep my DD sedan!!

so plans have changed...to no idea yet lol. i could build the ZC for boost, i have heard that motor is good with a turbo on it. all motor? but then i would most def want to upgrade to a stronger engine.

im open to any and all suggestion!! let me know what you guys have done to your efs, or what i should do to mine. post any links to mods or DIYs you find interesting, as well as what you have done. what should i do?

I have a 90 sedan with a Jdm b18b with a y1 short gear trans with an ls fifth gear in it. Motor is all stock internally but the car is really quick. It was quick without the short gear trans. It's a lot more fun with it though lol

Don't go boosting unless you have tons of money to burn. Especially since you are not experienced with motor swapping.
